All the offers I am seeing mention "Data available on Telkom Mobile network" as the small print to any offering. I am looking at the Note 3. It has 100 "all net" minutes, presumably meaning I can phone any network for 100 mins per month, and 5GB data with an asterisk referring to the clause mentioned.

Please can someone tells me what this means?

EDIT : To elaborate further, what is the difference between these two:

Telkom Mobile Internet Bundle 250 MB @ R38
All Networks Internet Bundle 250 MB @ R50

Telkom Mobile if i remember roams on MTN in areas where Telkom Mobile doesn't have coverage. So the 5GB data above can only be used when you are under Telkom Mobiles coverage and not roaming on the MTN Network.

Thank you <dashes off to check coverage map>

Effectively that 5GB is useless unless my area of travel is covered. Presumably you won't know either when it switches from one to the other?

Hi Dubes

All net minutes means you can call any South African Network with your minutes. Telkom Mobile Internet Bundle means you can use the bundles only on the Telkom Mobile covered areas. In areas where there is no Telkom Mobile coverage then the All Network Bundles will be used.

The 5GB data bundles only work on the Telkom Mobile Covered areas. It is advisable to check the coverage in your area before you subscribe for a contract.

Thanks. I have checked coverage areas. My mobile data will obviously be used on the road and not in one place. The coverage map in Durban, Durban West and up the North Coast looks ok but does have "dead spots". The more important question then is whether the switch from Telkom to MTN is seamless or whether the user is somehow notified? Don't want to assume I am on the Telkom network and then find I use up, or am billed for, "off network" data.

You can load "all network" bundles. More expensive, but gives you connectivity when needed. TM network bundle will be used in first place when you are under TM coverage.
On some devices you can disable data roaming. Internet will stop when you leave TM network. Enable when you want to consume "all network" data.
Alternatively look for Afrihost offering (using MTN network)

Hi Dubes

If you are in an All net covered area but don't have the all net bundles then you will be routed to the out of bundle page when you try to connect. It is always advisable to check your remaining bundles by dialing *188# or send a blank SMS to 188. On some devices you can disable data roaming and the connection will stop when you are on the All Net area.
