I'm tired of you people ripping me off. My data depletes extremely and unusually fast. This is infuriating because it started with my contract number,then I bought a prepaid sim and after a few months the same thing started. When I call in your call centre agents tell me the same thing,talking about background data which I've disabled since I've purchased this damn phone. You guys are ripping me off,you getting damn cocky cause more and more people are switching to telkom mobile cause they think you're data bundles are cheap little do they know the kind of bs that awaits them in a few months. You guys are full of nonsense,I've been a loyal customer 6 years and this service or disservice rather,is appalling and disgusting to the core. You care more about profits that service delivery,*******s.

My Telkom Mobile data never depletes extremely fast whether prepaid or contract and I too have been with them over 6 years.

Do you facebook on your phone? I know someone, who because she facebooks a lot on her phone, can easily go through 500mb in 2 days. Do you have dropbox installed? Often time that will upload photos you take automatically and cellphone photos can be pretty big in size.

I know people who are experiencing the same as you on Vodacom and MTN, and guess what, its normally device related. Like the VC one who complained her data was depleting too fast, when we went to check the data usage (similar to screen below), her whatsapp had used 400mb of data since 1 Feb. Maybe her daughter is using the whatsapp and deleting the history in whatsapp or maybe she sent many pictures or video clips herself, who knows, but it's not VC fault. So show us your usage screen and we can tell you whats what.

You didn't mention the size of the data allowance you get, nor the speed you connect (EDGE/3G/LTE). You could have 200mb data and blow that is a few minutes on LTE

Location services and tracking software
Virus
Updates not set to wifi only, including the OS/Phone OTA updates
"Free" apps that display ads
GDrive (or other cloud storage) syncing. You may have put files up from your pc into your cloud storage and they are now trying to sync back to the device
Heavy use of WhatsCrap to send/receive video clips and do video chats
Subscription services like music or books
