Sign up with GoogleThe hamster inside my head has been working hard. Following discussions and insight from cavedog, I have run some numbers and realised that it is possible to make all network calls for 48 cents per minute!
Here's how: You need to be on the Telkom More package (not Sim Sonke) to get to this low rate and let's ignore data for this example:
Recharge a sim with R20 - you now have R20 airtime and R20 free airtime valid for 7 days (free airtime can't buy any form of bundle and is used at R1.90 per minute)
Buy a 25min voice bundle for R17 (25minutes)
Voice calls will use free airtime first - R20/1.9 (10.5minutes)
You have R3 airtime left for future use.
You have now spent R17 (R20 less R3 "unexpirable" airtime) on 35.5minutes (10.5 of which you must use within 7 days)
That is an effective rate of 48cents per second as long as you use the free airtime minutes within the 7 days - the free airtime will be used first before the voice bundle minutes. You will also still have that R3 airtime** to add to your next recharge and use it to buy another voice bundle or data etc.

**I used R20 in the example, as R10 is the smallest recharge on Takealot (my source of prepaid airtime) but I am sure there are sources from where you can buy the exact R17 which you need (online banking \ tillpoint).
