Telkom moving ADSL users to fibre-to-the-home

My neighbourhood will probably only get upgraded in 10 or 20 years from now.

Telkom's so called coverage map shows that my area has VDSL, but that's a complete lie. I've spoken to quite a few neighbours and none of them have VDSL.

I think “congratulations Telkom” is in order here. I always believed they should have automatically offered every fixed line subscriber ADSL, and let them try it for free. After they are ADSL subscribers, they are far less likely to cancel their fixed lines.

Fibre is the same. After you have fibre in a person’s home, value added services are far easier to sell.

Well Done Telkom...

As soon as the fibre is in our building, I'll happily jump ship!
(Hoping the fibre comes sooner, rather than later - the notification of installation was sent in October, but nothing has happened yet!)

Many Telkom ADSL subscribers across the country will be migrated to fibre-to-the-home, free of charge.

Maybe it's competition that's doing this. This is good news, Telkom has upgraded all their roadside DB boxes in my area. I've had no problem with Telkom, if I had any problems they were always there to help. Hopefully they are taking a different business approach. Lets wait and see. :)

TIFTFY. Means sweet blow buggerall when fibre is mostly only available in estates and large house complexes. Even with a DFA line going down the main road just below me it means nothing. Telkom can suck it!

You need to do your homework.
I did. Just see small patches of fibre and most of it being in the planned stadium. Reminds me of that Blackadder episode where the General's looking at the map...

General: "Boy Darling, it's a barren wasteland out there...

Darling: "The map's upside down sir...

General: "Oh I see, thankyou Darling

Soon...

If these 1000s go to fibre and free up the copper, do all the copper users get speed upgrades?
