Telkom must cut jobs to save the company

Telkom must cut jobs to safeguard the company’s sustainability.

This is according to a statement from the Telkom Group, which said it has started a consultation process with organised labour as part of a section 189 process.

Some reality for the “big picture kinda guys”, if there are no staff left, there is nothing left to save.

I saw an article saying that Telkom might have to layoff an additional 3000 of it's staff

Hopefully that is the case and not getting rid of the technical staff, imagine they are paid pretty decently.
The down side if that is true, considering 3 Million people make up the vast majority of the tax base, these 3000 layoffs basically could mean 1% of the tax base being wiped out which means more taxes for the remaining tax payers.

Think windows 95 .....back then IT techies probably in much higher demand than these days with more stable and mature win10....same with Telkom....much less equipment required these days to do job and much less staff to maintain...add smart networks and smart healing\diagnostics plus using contractors for once of installations and yeah...

Telkom failed to grow and adapt. They had the monopoly with their copper network. Instead of using your existing ducts and poles to set up your own fibre network you decided you want to be a mobile operator and an ISP. So now you have to get rid of your useless copper network and the people that looked after it.

So if the state can force corps to employ all South Africans our economy will flourish?
