The website requires ‘companies who respond’ – in this case Telkom - to respond and resolve issues related to service from the company.
AFAIK the website also requires a payment from 'companies who respond'

Wow... For once Telkom does something I can compliment them about.

The first big company that is sick of being blackmailed to repond, lets see who's next to leave :D

I agree ... refusing to get money extorted from them by HP .. nothing wrong with that!

While Telkom constantly rips us a new one.....oh yes I forgot only they are allowed to carry on unethically and unchallenged!

Telkom obviously didn't consider participation in the HP site as being any value to them so even if they had remained a 'company who [-]succumbs[/-] responds do you think it would make any difference to the consumer?

What's wrong with that? Ebay makes sellers pay them upfront for listings
and then the seller has to hand over a cut of the sales to Ebay and Paypal.
Maybe if ad-revenue sold well on HelloPeter or complainants had to pay a
fee to make a complaint then the multi-billion Rand co's like Telkum could
post their replies for free. However being the smaller guy I prefer to
post my comments for free - let the co. offering the poor service pay.

Why is it extortion? You pay to post replies. If not then maybe the complainants should pay. HelloPeter is a good site, it works, its
usually the only means short of a lawyer of getting a company to listen to
its customers.

Why are so many people on this forum upset about HelloPeter?
Is there an alternative?
Do you run businesses which featured on HP?

It's beyond me. As a consumer HP helped me out 4-5 times over the years.
Come on....

You know - I don't know how well Telskum responded to its customers
or what level of support rep got back to the customer, but if any did, its
a bonus for those customers. At least they had a hearing from the monopolistic behemoth which puts customer care last.

THAT is exactly why its extortion! A small company has to pay to defend its name?!

“Oh dear oh dear oh dear... Talk about an uphill battle. We've emailed our contact person there [at Telkom], left countless messages, banged our heads against the wall, and.... nothing,” Cheales said.

“We were so delighted to have them [Telkom] on board that we made every effort to provide them with all the backup possible. I'm sorry. Nothing's worked. Fortunately it's one of the very few companies in the last seven years that I've had to move to the list of Companies Who Don't. After all, they don't!! There's literally nothing else I can do,” Cheales said.

“Again, I'm sorry that Telkom hasn't lived up to its promise of responding,” Cheales concluded.

I know, just post a complaint on hellopeter.com... :p

Telkom > Chuck Norris
They don't have to roundhouse you cos they already have your number (literally).

What is the value of a company paying lip-service?

Maybe because you own HelloPeter, Peter CH (Cheales)!!!

Defending your own company on a forum because nobody else cares enough to do it must be terrible! Stop extorting companies for money, your entire business case is built around extorting businesses for more money!

I hope your site shrivels up and dies...

How is it extortion? The company must pay to be part of a forum where they can find out what their problems are, HP does a good job!

By creating an area where consumers can complain for FREE, yet companies have to PAY to respond to those complaints, HelloPeter is EXTORTING those businesses.

These consumers now use HelloPeter rather than the official channel (company's helpline/complaining to the relevant branch) that was created by the company to handle these complaints. These companies thus have to pay to respond to their customers' complaints on HP AS WELL as keeping their helpline going.

If HelloPeter actually offered the company something that they didn't already offer, then by all means, charge them for it. But all of those companies already have ways to deal with these issues, which is almost always what you need.

instead of them moaning about how many cases they have, why don't they just employ more people and build more offices? simple as that.

Those businesses that are being complained about should have to bill the pocket for their shoddy service in the first place.
