Eee PC 4G Surf - 4-cell, Li-Ion, 4400 mAh, 7.4 volts: 2 h 45 min battery life
Eee PC 4G (701) - 4-cell, Li-Ion, 5200 mAh, 7.4 volts: 3 h 30 min battery life

Wonder how much the Cloudbook, Nanobook & MSI Wind PC's are going to retail for then?

3.5 hours is also not good enough for such a small machine if you ask me...

If that is the case then it really is a steal. If you are tied to the Devil for ADSL for 3 years, then, it is not.
Anyone on ADSL, be it M(oney)Web, Telscum, @lantrick is using the "Devil's" lines for access anyway... ;)

http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pcbundle/toshibanotebook.html

and looks like the first notebook on this site: http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/lapto...ical=RFZEIHdyaXRlcg==&cat=185&brand=52&page=2

But another one of their flyers specifies the Celeron M520P processor, I just hope they've still got stock of the one they mention on the net.
Definitely the T2330 CPU and 160Gb HDD. The flyer is a bit old, just as the application form supplied at the service branches. Still dates back to the previous special which was the M520 with 120Gb drive.
The latest application form shows the correct specs.
Got mine yesterday and must say, quite impressed!

Thanks, 80gb hdd though? The ad says 160gb on the net, and 120gb on the flyer.

What do you think of its performance? I use photoshop on a daily basis.
Definitely 160Gb. Running Photoshop CS3 and Office 2007 from the XP partition on mine.
I immediately formatted the drive and made it dual-boot with XP - some of my progs still don't work with Vista.

Anyone else got this special with the 1Gb flash disk included?
The software that comes on the CD with the flash disk does not seem to work.
I need to get the annoying partition with the Telscum video off so the full stick will be available for own use.
Any other flash disk partitioning software that actually works?

I simply would not trust them or this offer - that laptop has changed shape and form so often depending on where and when you see the ad.

Being tied into a 36 month contract to the beast, just to save a few bucks on an entry-level lappie, is not a good idea.

I agree with hj2k x. Changing the deal is just like Telkom is, rather buy an entry level laptop from Incredible Corruption I got a great deal for only R4000 though it was a on special... think it is an Acer Aspire 3050 or something.

Or, you can get the entry-level Acer at IC on a Business Call contract with VC. Works out at R202/month for 24 months if you don't have the cash up front. It works out that you only pay a bit more than the machine is worth, and that over 2 years.

i'll check it out at a telkom store tomorrow (er today). Less than 8 grand for a C2D seems a worthwhile offer to me.

Thanks.. I was going to take it, I never thought it was only 1GB

Cool. If it were a deal that was like R100 less than I am already paying then I would consider the 3 year contract...But what they are actually offering is pretty lame. :\

NGR has the same laptop for R6,633

If you already on Telscum account it works out to only R127 p/m extra on the phonebill for the laptop deal only - that's less than R4600 for a machine selling in excess of R6000 elsewhere - bargain.

Pity about the unremovable ad on the bundled 1Gb USB stick which effectively renders the stick useless. Not Mustek nor Telscum can (or will) provide a solution to remove the CDFS autorun feature from the stick. The formatting utility on the accompanying CD doesn't work from XP or Vista either...

NoRulez - explain to me how you make it out to be an extra R127/pm?

depending on how NoRulez arrived at this R127/m, the 3 year contract may be a minor issue given there is a saving of around R2000 to be had.
