Went in to Telkom store, gave them my account number and RICA docs, was provided with a provisioned sim.

Tried that. Got my sim and three weeks later it's still not working. I want my 2gb of data dammit.

Pardon me if this is a stupid question, but have you activated the sim by putting it in a mobile?

Of course. I've been back to the telkom shop multiple times. Nobody can explain why it isn't working, just that it isn't.

If I sign up for the UNLIMITEDHome package, is it active immediately?

My adsl line is already with telkom, but have a different ISP.

Also, I currently have a 4Mbps line and want to get the 10Mbps Unlimited. Will there be downtime?

Being that I don't work for Telkom, but have spent a lot of time doing this migration for myself and a few friends and family, I can say that:-
I was on a different ISP. Application period is 72 hours but activation was immediate when going through @TelkomZA Twitter guys, was SMSed my access information right away and it worked right away. If your exchange can support the higher speed, a modem reset is all it will take once provisioned at Telkom.

I had the same problem. I then got a d-link modem from Telkom which also included a gsm dongle. As I couldn't get the dongle to work I too it to Telkom Century City shop and the technical support guy fiddled (may have replaced the sim I had) and voila it worked in the dongle. I still can't get it to work in my Redmi :), so maybe it will only work in the dongle???

So I was looking to get this deal, asked for a Callback

There's some Caveats

*You must take a new line (cannot migrate from existing)
*If you don't sign 24month contract the install is R1700~

Laughed and told them there's no chance they'll ever get me to sign up for that kind of nonsense

As I stated previously, don't believe a work a telesales and in-store Telkom rep will tell you because neither of the above are factually correct. I migrated an existing line without a hassle. And self-install is the easiest thing under the sun. Get hold of @Telkom on Twitter.

The requirement for a new SIM is ridiculous. I have a TM SIM as my primary. Now I need another to use this data? Just add it to my current account!

Yup I asked the same thing, three years ago they gave me a sim, last year they gave me a sim and now again??
