Telkom officially wants to buy Cell C

We've known this for a while now, but at least it's official now.

While this will benefit both Telkom and Cell C shareholders I somehow feel the ordinary consumer will be worse of if this move comes to fruition.

How so?

If Telkom can fix CellC's network we'll have a viable alternative to the big two.

I Somehow dont think the 2 will agree on price... Telkom will say it worth X, Cell - c will say its worth Y.... im not sure.... i could be completely wrong

Agree. Telkom has the backhaul to fix Cell-Cs prehistoric network, and Cell C has the spectrum and customer base to make it sustainable.

The biggest challenge will be the duplicate workforce and all the associated admin behind the scenes...

I still dont understand why Telkom sold vodacom. Now they trying everything in the mobile space from trying to buy access from MTN (declined), building a mobile unit 8ta (failed endevour) and now having a shot at CellC (rejected so far according to the article). I bet wherever Ruben September is he's having a loud laugh because he was the CEO that signed off Vodacom

Telkom current EXCO are on record as saying that was biggest blinder ever done by Telkom, unfortunately the people who sold vodacom are no longer working for Telkom and the new EXCO has to clean up after their mess.

Really? You live next to a tower

Then the tower must follow me around... I may be spoiled cos I'm in JBG but the network problems have dissapeared since the beginning of the year completely. I even get LTE at most places now, and with the Vodacom 3G roaming I have signal pretty much everywhere.

I was on Cell C for about 4 years and never had a problem with their network. I'm mainly a data user though, barely make phone calls.

I moved to TM in the last few months and having been having a similarly great experience.

I'm not saying Cell C doesn't have its problems, but it's not all bad.

I for one, think this merger is a good thing. It'll mean they can compete more effectively with Voda/MTN by pooling their resources.

I'm on Cell C's network for almost 3 years now and coming from MTN I don't see the network as being any worse,in fact its better than MTN where I work and live.Yes before Vodacom 3G roaming there was an issue in some places as you only got very slow edge but these days thats a non issue and I find that I have excellent reception even in those places(I'm talking about an MP dorpie and Sodwana bay etc btw not JHB).

+1.I travel extensively around JHB and I can't recall any problems, there used to be an issue in fordsburg but I see its fine now.

Lol! You're quite funny!

No its the truth, the network has always been fine for calling only data speeds in a few places were terrible, now since the Vodacom 3G roaming agreement its fine.If somebody has issues with Cell C data tell them to make sure data roaming is enabled on their phone.
