Hi there,
would anyone know when fibre will be active (lit) in this area shown in coverage map 2018-02-05_141147.jpg ? I have been waiting for over 6 months now with no sign of getting fibre into our home. The street opposite our house is dark pink and is fibre active. we have fibre hanging from the boundary wall telephone pole. I have checked with Telkom 10213, and even they are not sure what the hold up it.

Can anyone link me up with the Openserve guys servicing our area? Is there a serious technical limitation to activating fibre in this region? is the demand for fibre low? Am I the only one anxious to get fibre? How long should I wait for?

Thanks
SL:confused:

I've seen them take around a year, from the time an area turned light pink to dark pink, a block away from me.

Why are specifically looking at Vox? Have you considered others like Cellc, Cool Ideas, Telkom, Vodacom, Level-7?

Yes, thanks cavedog, I have. They are all great, but do not meet my requirements. Also, I have been a Vox ADSL client, so wanted to explore options in their fibre range--website info is too confusing for me first-timer.

I was thinking of following:
Just around R1K or below.
20/10 (or 40/20) (Openserve does only asymmetric)
uncapped (not sure what our usage will be, but I have teenagers who drain my ADSL anyway ;-)
VOIP package (port my telkom line)

I see installation is charged extra not sure what FATPIPE data means either?

Okay well usually I would also always recommend uncapped but some ISP's uncapped fair use policy is lower than capped products.

Below 1k a month you are looking at the 20/10 package or in some cases the 40/20.

Level-7 uncapped unshaped - R899
Cellc Cfibre uncapped - R907
Vodacom Fibre uncapped - R960
Vox Telecom uncapped - R957.33
Home-Connect uncapped - R998
Telkom Unlimited Home- R1008
Cool Ideas Uncapped - R1119
RSA Web uncapped -R905

There is a list of decent fibre providers using Openserve. Out of the list I would probably recommend Cool Ideas, Level-7, Cfibre and Telkom.

Now for your VoIP requirements you could port your number to a Voip provider and use it as prepaid.
https://www.freshphone.co.za/pricing/ comes to mind. R150 once off porting cost and pay for your calls only no monthly fee.

Some of these providers and other I have not listed does offer complete free installation but obviously if you are not happy with the service you would have to pay back the installation fees which is standard and if you had signed up for the line yourself the setup fees were due by you anyways.

Free setup providers are:
Level-7
Cfibre
Afrihost
Cool Ideas
Axxess

Hi again,

I wanted to check what router or access point solution would be best for me: house is a upstairs and downstairs--with concrete slab between. I wanted to know the best place to place the CPE box and also if the Router signal the ISP supply will be adequate to penetrate the walls and slab? We spend most internet use upstairs, but would like to have a strong signal downstairs too. Could you guide on on how to set this up? been reading about Access Points like Ubiquity, etc--but is this an over-kill for my requirements? Our usage will be mainly internet browsing with YouTube use, occasional streaming Tv shows, and Dropbox backing up.

thanks
S

The D-Link modem is TELKOM supplied and is downstairs, and I have a netgear wifi extender upstairs--the speeds upstairs are abysmal.
