Hi,

Since yesterday I'm experiencing a problem with email using the Telkom smtp servers to relay. Mail gets randomly delayed by up to 5 hours. Had complaints from clients as well and it seems as if dial-up, ISDN as well as ADSL users are affected.

Of course Telkom denies any problems, and one hits a stonewall trying to bring the problem to their attention

I'm getting the following in my mailserver logs:

2004-10-27 08:16:46 SMTP connection from [196.25.240.73] I=[a.b.c.d]:25 (TCP/IP connection count = 2)
2004-10-27 08:17:16 SMTP protocol violation: synchronization error (input sent without waiting for greeting): rejected connection from H=ctb-mesg1.saix.net [196.25.240.73] I=[a.b.c.d]:25

I have no problems receiving mail from other mail servers across the world.

I trust the Telkom lurker will report this to the correct people.

Is the mail leaving your side?
(Forgotten how to read logs)
If its not leaving your side, then you can flush your queue and have it try resend to telkom immediatly.
Sendmail would be - sendmail -t1
qmail - I think theres a tool to do it qmHandle?

Thanks Telkom lurker - the problem seems to have been solved!

Pity a public forum is required to get the message through.

yip qmHandle will show whats in your queue

kaspaas, was it the mail servers acting up or was it the SMTP protocol (ie all SMTP traffic) that was the cause of the problem?

The problem returned :-(

There is nothing in my server q.

It is Telkom that is trying to post mail to my server.
