Telkom Speed Upgrade Issues

I have a bit of a problem. My speeds were good for a long time. Its set on 8mbps. I use to get 7mbps at best and my exchange is 10mbps enabled. My ISP is Telkom.

But since last Monday my speeds have been terrible like 1.36mbps during the day and only late like after 12:30am will it go back to normal. This is no coincidence because this happened at the same time that Telkom began the upgrades.

A Telkom technician was here and insists that I must drop my speed to 4mbps and it will be stable. So now I must use 3mbps after years of decent speeds.

I dont know what to do. All I get is the same crap about distance from exchange, line conditions and congestion on the exchange. It doesnt make sense that Ive been getting good speeds and then suddenly its this and that, that wrong.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Congestion is a possibility. run speedcheck.net if the ping time is higher than 60ms then it's likely you are congested. Note run the speed test multiple times over 15 mins and also ensure that there aren't downloads taking place in the background.

I have exactly the same problem. Since about mid-last week I have been unable to to stream video or browse sites without tons of buffering or just general unresponsiveness.

Speed tests demonstrate that while local access still seems fine, international is running at a fraction it should be (in my case a speed test to NY clocked in at 0.25mbits on my 6mbit line, compared to 5mbits locally).

been having the same issues and my ISP is telkom. My line was perfect and was syncing perfectly.
Now for the last two weeks its been pathetic....if I do a speed test I get 0.40mbps at any time, whereas before I used to get nearly 10mbps.

I logged a fault with telkom and a day later I got an sms saying they fixed the problem when nothing was fixed.
When I spoke to the call centre they are telling me to lower my speed and when I asked why was it performing perfectly before and now suddenly its not...they don't have an explanation apart from their out of the training book response to everything which is to lower the line speeds to make it stable.

I was on the initial 40mb trial when it started and my line was perfect but then downgraded when the trial was over as it was expensive and not worth it, when I told that to the consultant he told me you need another modem as the Pace VDSL modem does not support the 10mbps as it is ADSL...WTF!!! Who even trains these people!!!

Logged another fault yesterday and waiting again.
I cant even watch a youtube video...so frustrated with telkom and their service.
hoping the telkom rep on the forum can help us out.
