Hi everyone

I am from lenasia. I upgraded to a 4mb/s line a month ago. My line has been syncing at 2.6mb/s. I have accepted that the distance from the exchange could be the problem. However, from yesterday my line has only been syncing at 836kbs. Logged a fault with telkom and today i get a call from a technician who tells me that this is normal. Its normal to connect fast at 1st and then to drop to very low speeds after a few weeks. This doesn't make sense!! Why would it connect at 2.6mbs and then all of a sudden only at 838kbs?? So i asked what telkom plans on doing about the problem and he said "Nothing"... And then said i have to wait 2years for the technology to come to my area. My frustration is that if its been working at 2.6mbs for the past 3 weeks, then it should continue working at that speed. And when i told him about a crackling noise on the line he said that that also has to do with the distance from the exchange. i Am so upset right now.

What do i do? Is there a higher power i can complain to??

Drop the suspension on the line.
Bring it in line with lenasia speeds.

That's what I thought too. If my line was able to sustain 3.7mbps for about a month this year, why is Telkom under no obligation to restore my line to more than the <2mbps speeds I've been getting the rest of the year? I understand their up-to argument, but surely that is if your line cannot ever reach higher speeds due to distance etc. It's been proven that my line can, the fact that I'm not currently getting it is a maintenance issue which bears the question why am I paying (double) line rental if my line isn't properly maintained?

Having exhausted my patience I sadly have to say no. Some people who refused to give up eventually got their problems sorted but frankly, I admit I'm tired of the fight. I've accepted the fact that I have some connectivity at least, while Telkom seems to get away with what in other industries will invoke the wrath of various consumer protection bodies.

Exactly!!! Its very frustrating considering the amount of money we have to hand over every month for service we don't even get.

I spoke to another technician and he said that there is a way to get up to 10mbs speeds in our area. Something to do with plugging us in to our Trade Route mall exchange because they already have up to 10mbs. The technician then said that management said NO to this suggestion because in two years we will be upgraded to fibre optics. And its a waste of their time and money. What about our time and money? And besides... 2 years is a long time.
