Telkom telly

Telkom Media says its offering would be tiered, with the upper end an interactive cable offering - for which Telkom first needs to finish rolling out its next generation network - coming it at around R320/month, which is less than incumbent MultiChoice's existing satellite bouquet DStv.

So it's R320 - one price?

R320 one price ye, But that still excludes your normal R100 line rental, and obviously your ADSL line rental (obviously u cannot watch IPtv without ADSL line, so u must pay up those fee's too)

So the bare minimum would be your internet part wich is Normal line rental, ADSL line rental, and your normal ISP account for your internet cap. Then the IPTV part will be added too, wich would either be the full R320 unless u choose to buy a cheaper/different package.

According to Telkom IPTV will not run off your normal cap (so i'm guessing it runs off a uncapped system thats for IPTV alone) your normal ADSL will be capped as per normal capping system *i'm guessing it runs on different methods of logging in.

correct, the two run separately. if you read up on triple play architecture there are multiple ways to achieve this. effectively, depending on your synch rate you may (when they get it working) be able to get 384Kbps Internet (HSI in 3Play nomenclature) alongside 4-8Mbps IPTV. Also, it should be possible to take IPTV without HSI - not sure if Telkom will allow it.

From all accounts it will cost R100 rental (unless this is scrapped by then) + adsl access + R320. No extra bandwidth charges. Thus, one would need to add ISP costs if you want HSI.

Im sure you can see the opening here for a bundled Do-Everything service LOL

"YOU'RE WATCHING your favourite soapie and some of the characters are eating pizza. An order prompt appears at the right hand corner of your screen, so you press OK on your remote control and half an hour later a pizza is delivered to your doorstep. "

Oh God No!!! Not only add breaks, but ads jumping up onscreen during shows. Now I'll need a popup blocker for my TV?

And no, the R320 is not everything. After you get your ADSL2 4meg, connection, your compulsory phone line, probably some sort of set top box rental etc. etc. You are looking at well over R1k a month. I'm sure DSTV are pissing themselves with laughter at the moment.

There's no need to pay the deliveryman, as you'll be billed as part of your monthly phone bill, which would also include your high-speed broadband connection, your cellphone calls and, of course, your cable charge.

And your soul...

Why, oh why is such an important tool in the implementation of our freedom of choice being given to the w@nkers that have ruined our telecomms industry?!?!?!?!

sheesh - just how many South Africans are going to be able to afford this!! Not me for sure!

I sure as hell won't be able to afford IPTV and I'd be helluva wary to do it if I could. Multichoice may suck horribly but at least they don't try to take over my home.
