I've been a Vodacom client since forever and lately I struggled to understand why since it's just pure rape, ridiculous prices anyway long story short went into Vodacom to hear how many months I still have left on my 4 contracts and to my surprise they are all done in the next 3 months!

So I went into telkom picked up their booklet, lo and behold they have this thing called freeme and boy oh boy the prices seem to good to be true compared to Vodacon.

So it's save to say I will now be a Telkom customer, would have canceled my Vodacom contracts earlier of it wasn't for their ridiculous cancelation policy.

I've got Telkom Mobile's 5GB for R 99 deal and unfortunately you don't get signal everywhere. In fact, in a lot of places I don't get signal. Make sure you can roam on MTN's network with the FreeMe deal otherwise wouldn't recommend getting this just yet.

You can roam. I sit firmly on MTN

Telkom will never be the death of Vodacom.
If there is one company that can give a unified data package it would be telkom.

Data should be a utility just like electricity and there should be no difference between data for adsl and data for a sim card.

Data should be able to be used on whatever device is capable be that a tower or a phone line

And telkom is the only company imo that is in a position to do that with all their infrastructure specifically refering to non mobile.

I do agree with you but until Telkom does exactly that....they will never be the death of Vodacom.
Vodacom's network is available everywhere with decent, if not the best, speed etc.

Telkom needs to wake-up to the fact to what you are referring to you in your comment, otherwise they will be the death of nobody.....especially their pathetic customer service which is non-existent.
ADSL on Telkom is a real adventure with their customer service.

Agreed. All of my contracts have been with Vodacom for the last 10 years. In this time I have tried MTN, Cell C, Virgin Mobile as well as Telkom and Vodacom has honestly provided the best signal speed and quality.

Yeah Telkom will NEVER be the end of Vodacom unless we can some how change the mind of the masses that the R7 minutes Vodacom offers is actually ****......

That said Telkom is excellent except it's not.

Telkom does not have that many towers and I think it's not even 1/10 of what MTN and Vodacom has so what will happen is your phone battery will suffer if you move to and from work and go into malls and stuff as it will change from Telkom to MTN a lot and that eats the battery and drop calls.

So there is a solution except that solution is not always the best option too.

Telkom - Access to 2G,3G and Telkom super fast LTE network. Poor coverage.
MTN Roaming - Access to 2G and 3G but 3G is HSDPA only so single cell and not the DC-HSDPA which is significantly faster. Very good coverage in fact you will almost always be on 3G. All your freeme benefits/data will still work. You will sacrifice LTE from TElkom as the roaming agreement does not allow Telkom users to use DC-HSDPA and LTE on MTN.

We are also in the process of porting 8 Vodacom contracts to Telkom - one at a time.
Moving all of our business to a more competitive company.

Short term I agree.

But I have this feeling data will become a utility, and with a government with 35% stake in telkom I think they are in a better position to roll out a grid compared to a shafting company like Vodacom and (might be wishful thinking), but I firmly believe that all access points should be merged so. Vodacom's superior infrastructure will form part of the unified grid.

(this is all irrelevant now, but concidering our Vodacom contract history stretches back 15 years I think it's good to shift over to telkom for the next 15 since I don't see remarkable Innovation from Vodacom any time soon, at least not what telkom cannot/will not do.)
