I didn’t realize the move from 315 to 618 would make such a difference! Think I should try find a 618 somewhere now.

For the last 2 weeks I have the annoying situation where I must switch the router on/off every morning, when back from work and sometimes while watching evening shows. Irritating as anything

If you were originally on the R699 / R799 then take the upgrade and B618

But as I am on the R599 (now R529) deal, no ways would I sign 24 months at R799 for a router
Yeah, if paying R529 now going for the R799 means in about 10 months the extra you're paying more on contract would've added up to the cash price of the B618. The rest of the contract you're just making unnecessary extra payments

I must say, I've never seen the max DL speeds you guys are posting, but I have to say, my download speeds during peak times are now a non-issue, which makes the B618 worth it.

Try external antenna if you are not using that already.

Something to take note of guys.

So Telkom has quite a few setups to try and make customers get the best data connection so here are some things to take note of.

The B315 is a 2x2 mimo router. 2 rx and 1 tx build in antenna and stays the same when connecting an external.

B618 router has 4x4 mimo internal antennas and when connecting an external you esentially downgrade it to a 2x2 mimo router.

When carrier aggregation takes place the router will only use 2x2 mimo because the radios will be used on the extra band.

So Telkom runs 4x4 mimo and massive mimo on band 40 and also the carrier aggregation between 2 blocks of band 40 spectrum.

If you compare speed wise you could get similar speeds when comparing 4x4 mimo on band 40 vs 2x2 mimo with carrier aggregation.

Some very interesting stuff. If you are close to the tower but no LTE-A coverage using the b618 internal antennas might be a better option. If signal is poor then maybe an external forcing 2x2 mimo might be a better option.

Change to unrestricted apn or maybe topup with a cheap *123# Mo Nice bundles to lift the throttling. ;)
Tell me more about the change of unrestricted apn to stop the throttling (I've hit the cap yet )
