I see the B618 you listed from Takealot is the 22d variant, I think that currently won't work for Hellkom LTE-A

Correct,it'll go LTE,but for LTE-A you need the 65d variant,2899 at Telkom

What route is likely best to take to move from a B315 towards better LTE speed? Get a poynting antenna for R1600 or a B618 router for R2500?

Joeboy69 The B618 with no antenna is a better option that a B315 with external antenna. If you do decide on the B618 make sure you get it from Telkom. The B618 sold elsewhere does not support Telkom LTE-A only the B618sold at Telkom shops support their LTE-A which is the Huawei B618s-65d

Do they still sell it, now the B525 being sold?

525 is Cat6,afaik it's replacing the B315 stock as their entry level from what I gathered over the weekend speaking to their tech guys, the 618 still being the premiere Cat 11

Why the B525 if B618 65d seems better especially for Telkom?

It is but the B525 is a LTE-A device too and supports B40+B40 carrier aggregation. It's only a cat6 device but should not matter and when aggregating 2 bands you don't use the 4x4 mimo so it probably will perform the same as the B618 on Telkom when it comes to LTE-A. Normal LTE only the B618 might be a bit better because it has 4x4 mimo on normal LTE and Telkom has 4x4 mimo on most towers.

I need to get my hands on one asap to test.

So this mini tower in Wierda Park is pretty epic. Zero congestion. 70Mbps minimum speed 24/7. No lag in online games. Tower just popped up. Does not even show LTE-A coverage but I have full LTE-A coverage. 230m from the mini tower with no antenna. Honestly I don't even miss my fibre line.

Was downloading a torrent at 1.4MB/s. It's now dropped to 10KB/s. Same number of seeds.
