So this mini tower in Wierda Park is pretty epic. Zero congestion. 70Mbps minimum speed 24/7. No lag in online games. Tower just popped up. Does not even show LTE-A coverage but I have full LTE-A coverage. 230m from the mini tower with no antenna. Honestly I don't even miss my fibre line.

Is it all green? Flat panels and a box at the bottom? I've seen 4 of these pop up in my local area over the last 3 months.

You’ll be month to month after the contract is over. Also your payments will be a little less.

Also expect a ton of calls saying you need to upgrade blah blah blah. Just ignore them and carry on being on month month

If you are on the R799 deal take the upgrade and get the B618 for R55 a month more.

Still nothing - mine expired in May - my main number is on Vodacom - maybe they don't have it.

Also budgeted and paid cash. Still no word from Telkom about the cash price for the B525

Erratic Connection...

So for the past week or so, my LTE has been extremely erratic.

Every 10 minutes or so the connection will drop sometimes for only a few seconds...but other times the indicator on the router goes red and it's down for several minutes before coming back up.

I've done a full factory reset on the router, I've tried switching back to the internal antenna from the external one. I've tried changing bands...

Nothing works. Of course Telkom have done absolutely nothing to assist me.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might help?

I'm using the basic B315 router and I'm using the unrestricted APN at the moment but I did go back to the normal APN and still have the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Well for the B315 to show the red light it means your simcard is losing network and not just losing data connection. Wonder why your simcard or the router is kicking you off the network. You should try another router. :)

Yip - 2 days ago , our newly corporate uncapped LTE all hours product just stopped working ~ 49GB.

At closer inspection , our local full signal "LTE" tower went offline. Router now was showing WCDMA/3g but no traffic flowing at all. So i decided to do some testing - take a normal 8ta freeme simcard and pop it into the same router only to find that indeed the old tower is indeed offline and that the test simcard is connecting , 1 bar LTE , to another tower , very far away.

THUS.

It seems that they "FIX" your imei /sim nr , to a specific tower and that you cannot move this around (only the uncapped deal that has this bs).

After getting our "BCX/openserve" acc manager to get to the bottom of this , they say it is the Telkom Metro link that has failed the particular mast/network portion.

So now the unit is in forced LTE(4g) mode , trying to connect , while the engineers try to trace the imei/sim.
What they don't realise , is that this sim is orginally "married" , to their "broken" tower and not to the 1 bar , remote , tower. They are not going to pick it up.....

Sigh.....

I've had alsmost a similar experience up to the point where the red light just stayed and the sim was basically dead. Sim swop and was back in business (had the original black 8ta sim which had lasted 2+ years of the contract)

That is so far from the truth. I have done extensive testing since launch and still use the uncapped simcard. 3G failover should work but it's a hit and a miss on that for some people. For me 3G failover works fine. The simcard is not locked to a LTE tower at all. Put it in a phone and drive with it you will always be connected.

On your LTE router of you have it forced to a specific band for example band 1800MHz or Band 2300MHz just change the router to 4G Only mode and let it find another tower. IF it doesn't then the other towers are simply to far away. Try using internal antenna as the xpol 6 is directional.

We shall see on Monday.

I have 2 simcards and 2 routers.
Simcards:freeme simcard and the uncapped one.
After the network dropout of the uncapped service and implementing the freeme as backup , i could visibly see that i no longer have the original , strong signal tower with me. The freeme can now only connect 4g at 1 bar (no packet loss) and wcdma (3g) at 3-4 bar and working fine , however even having the uncapped sim on auto (telkom 4g (failed to register)) it reverts to wcdma (3g) light colour on front of router showing , but no data at all flowing.
I even reverted to put this uncapped simcard in a billion 7300 3g router - no go.
Thus -
Issue with uncapped simcard / profile maybe / and most SURELY tower issue.
Telkom online chat recons - "bring router to shop" - uhhh - shop is 30km away! grrrr - Pointless!
I provided cell ids / LAC / MNC / MCC and net strength to BCX/integr8 - lets see what they come up with....
Support platform is really non existing at present :(

PS: did the simcard in phone thing - no data services at all in the phone available and cannot register on any network. Shall do a drive out test on Monday as option.

I've found my uncapped LTE, while not fixed to a tower, doesn't work on 3G. Connection has to be LTE for any throughput.
