In the start mine also never allowed 3G fall back. It would show 3G but connection always stays on "disconnected"

About 7 months after that 3G and 2G started working and it's been working ever since.

Just forced it to 3G only and did a speedtest:
Ping: 20ms
Download: 20Mbps
Upload: 3.41Mbps

Does your 3G connection work when you dont have an extra bundle added on?

I've had alsmost a similar experience up to the point where the red light just stayed and the sim was basically dead. Sim swop and was back in business (had the original black 8ta sim which had lasted 2+ years of the contract)

Thanks everyone for the advice. Got a new SIM this morning and speeds are up and connection seems stable. Will monitor it for a few days and hope everything stays up...

I wonder if a Sim swap won't enable 3G fallback on mine? I can then also use it in a phone once I get fibre at home, which should be in the next month.

Sigh....

So after a few minutes of excitement...the disconnections continued with the new SIM.

I'm assuming it's the router...but I want to be sure before shelling out for a new one. Is there anything I can ask Telkom in order to completely rule out any issues on their side??

My suggestion would cause you a bit of downtime on uncapped , but how about trying a sim from another network like the Afrihost ones (if you already got) and slapping in a couple gigs and see how an MTN sim behaves. Not sure what prepaid bundles you can get from MTN directly , but idea is trying a different network

Less costly / stressful way of eliminating the Telkom sim from blame

You could try going into a Telkom shop and using your SIM in one of their routers.

Test the Telkom sim in a phone and test a different sim in your router...

Test the Telkom sim in a phone and test a different sim in your router...

So I borrowed a Huawei mifi device and put the Telkom SIM in there and an MTN sim in my normal router.

The problem persists...so it seems like the router is not the issue.

In desperation I pointed my antenna at a different tower and it seems to be more stable. The issue is that speeds are hond-***...like MAX 4Mbps, whereas with the previous tower I was getting 30-40Mbps regularly (up to 70 at times)...but then I have the disconnections...

I'm considering upgrading the router to a B618 in the hopes that perhaps LTE-A will be more reliable. Is this something that might help? Also, will the 22d version of the B618 be ok or do I need the other one (I forget the model number)...

Thanks for all the help chaps.

My relatively new B618 is now showing about 1/4 signal on all bands compared to what I used to get :(

Tested on the E5885 and it shows nearly full signal in the same spot

Checked that internal antenna is selected

Any ideas?

Going to try a factory reset and see if that helps
