Well, it was an R849 (now R857) for 4Mb "SmartInternet Unlimited". Hah.

Ok there is a 100GB cap on it then your speed drops.. i recommend you upgrade to their R899 option as you get 10Mb speed which is faster ofcourse and you get a new router and its LTE.. lastly it has a 150GB cap then speed drops to 4Mb then 2Mb..not lower

You should have signed up for the uncapped wireless option which was R799.. then much faster speed and 300GB cap.. maybe try to get that at the telkom store.. offer should still be on their system

Yahnee. Thanks for the info but this has pushed me to actually, finally stop dithering and go get fibre.
Not Telkom ISP, though. Bad taste lingers.:D

Fibre is the route to go but in my area.. fibre might only come in like 2025.. so next month, my 2 lte connections load balanced will have to do :)

hoping for atleast 150Mb load balanced

I'm still not aware of a fibre product that gives 300GB at anything between 20 and 100 mbps for less than R529

Also experienced this last night.. i could watch youtube, download from my seedbox and do speed test with no issues... accessing sites like google or mybb took ages to load.. maybe a dns issue..

didnt investigate further but this morning internet is fine
Yup today - all good again.

You aren't missing much from fibre. Was on a 100Mbps fibre for like 1 year+ and appart from the 2ms ping I got to local gaming servers in JHB the speeds are pretty much the same as my Telkom uncapped LTE-A except the fibre about twice as much. Latency and upload speed is where fibre shine. It also shines on stability where LTE would be tower dependent. On download speed the uncapped LTE beats any fibre line 50Mbps downwards.

Looks like Telkom are not allowing new signups on the 300GB package. A friend tried to get it recently and they gave him the 10/4/2 (150GB).

So I changed my dns from 1.1.1.1 back to Google and routing is way better with it staying local for most services. 1.1.1.1 was routing fast.com to bangalore and others to USA. 8.8.8.8 is routing to ixp.joburg

The 300GB was in reference to wireless uncapped LTE bundle 1 from telkom.. Originally priced at R599 after 24 months dropped to R529.

Its uncapped but after 300GB they throttle the speed

I know, I've had it since about the first day it launched.

What happens if you lose your Telkom Sim?

I'm going on holiday in December to CPT and I'll be using my Sim in my phone, some times unfortunate events can take place so I'm just contemplating what would happen if I lose my phone/gets stolen etc.

I don't think this has been mentioned before

Very simple, sim swop. I've done it before for a sim that died

Nothing you just do a sim swap? I forgot my simcard when I went on holiday and just did a sim swap at a Telkom store. Sim swap was free too.

Thanks, I thought it might not work for this sort of service.

Is there any way to retrieve those historical 'rocketship' coverage maps in any way?

I have bought a house in another suburb and having trouble figuring out which way to point my external antenna. The Telkom site isn't giving me much joy...

The rocketships are not an indication of all the LTE/LTE-A towers. You need to put the sim in a LTE band 40 capable cellphone and install opensignal to get the direction of the tower.

Is there any tricks to change bands on the Telkom LTE-A modem to get better speed. Signal is decent but speeds are poor in Randjesfontein
