But you need the Telkom version for 4G+

Indeed and the B618-22d is such a bad choice if you plan on using it on Telkom because only Band 3 LTE. So expect slow speeds because that band is mostly used by cellphones. No Band 40 on 22d and no 4G+ so it's relly not worth it.

If you guys want to save money on a LTE-A device for Telkom rather get the Huawei B525. It's a LTE-A device and supports both Band 3 and B40 and LTE-A on B40. It's the cheaper @ R1699 cash price.

Does the B525 have variants or there's only one version of it? Does it do LTE-A for both Telkom and RAIN or it's Telkom LTE-A only?

So far I have only seen the B525 from Telkom and it's the Huawei B525-65d which supports B3 and B40 and LTE-A on B40. It does not support Rain Band 38 but does work on Band 3 for Rain. The B525 do come in other variants like the B525-22d which supports Rain but would be exactly the same as B618-22d which can't aggregate B3+B38 so it would work on both bands but not the same time on Rain. I have not seen this version available locally yet so it's only the Telkom B525 from Telkom shops for R1699 that is available locally.

Available today from Takealot daily deals. No way to determine the variant.

I managed to grab a B525 Telkom sealed unit from Gumtree. I should get it early next week. Excited to see if I get better speeds than from the B315

No way of knowing which variant it is unfortunately. Probably the one that does not support Telkom.

If it is then they are probably the only relailer that sells the non Telkom version.

Anyone dead on international?
Haven't noticed any issues. I'm in Durban.
They put a message up on Twitter though:

"Service announcement: Telkom Internet customers in Northern region (Gauteng and Pretoria) may experience a slow connection due to cable breaks. Please be patient while we work on resolving the issue."

Would this router be better than the B315s-936?

It would. It's a LTE-Advanced router where the B315 is just a normal LTE router. Check the coverage map and click on LTE-A and since I see you mentioning Equestria I'm pretty sure there is a lot of LTE-A coverage.
