I doubt that would work. Have you check speeds of internal antenna vs external? Connecting a 2x2 mimo antenna to the B618 essentially removes any possibility of 4x4 mimo. Could lead to slower speeds or make no difference at all.

Thanks.

Speed is actually slower without the external antennas.

Possible Telkom looking at Band 1 & 3 CA.
Seeing as both are FDD, band 40 is TDD, so it can't be aggregated with the band 1 & 3

That is what I thought about especially on phones. Actually you can aggregate tdd and fdd lte bands. Rain mobile is doing it with band 41 tdd and band 3 fdd. Telkom just doesn't want too I guess but it's very possible. Telkom can actually do SA's first 4ca.

B1+B3+B40+B40 for a 4ca aggragation with a total bandwidth of 55MHz. Would be epic and samsung s9 upwards will be able to utilize it.

Will the B618 also do 4ca?

Samsung are the just masters when it comes to LTE radios in their devices. There isn't a aggregation combo it can't support. You name it no matter how scattered LTE spectrum is a high end samsung device will be able to aggregate it. If same just wanted to release a decent LTE router with their LTE radio what amazing device it would be.

Huawei seem to want to stick with different models instead of figuring out ways to get more aggregation combinations sorted. The B618 supports 4x4 mimo and 2ca at the same time. IMO mimo is pointless if the band is congested then mimo won't help at all. CA is way better imo. Might not have the peaks of mimo but mimo will only work best on a quiet tower. ca will give you the best chance of getting better speeds because the other frequencies might quieter.

Not sure what to do. Openserve fibre is available in my area now. Telkom 4G+ gives me like 80Mbps to 94Mbps constantly so far. Changing to Openserve fibre I'm not only going to pay more but the only real increase I will see is if I change to a 200Mbps product. The 100Mbps will have better upload and maybe slightly better download speeds.

Telkom uncapped LTE R529 all inclusive vs 100Mbps fibre of between R1299 and R1499 for decent uncapped.

Tough choice, bud. I'm going to have a similar problem to you when SADV light up our fibre. I also have a Rain SIM.

Aaaaarrrgh!

I won't cancel my telkom I think I will just let my mum use it in Richards Bay and cancel all my and her Rain sim then get fibre. Sigh the issue is Telkom LTE works sooooo well for me in Wierdapark but in Richards Bay the speeds are meh.

So confused about what to do. I do like Fibre because latency will be lower. Maybe J should just go with Gigago as today is the last day of their promo and not to mention the R1299 monthly for 100Mbps unthrottled.

I was also thinking about A360. I used them before and their fibre is well sooo good it's unbelievable and it's R1399 with them or should I go 200Mbps cfibre for R1600. Sigh I don't know. o_O

When I first got this product, I chose not to get a technician to come to my house to add the antenna because we couldn't do any drilling, so had to just find an okay spot and attach it.

Now it's different, is it possible to get the technician to come and do it free of charge even though it's been like 2-3 years.

I bought an external one and just mounted it on one of the rafters. Upped my speed a lot, maybe I was just lucky

just outside telkoms 4G footprint(coverage) and pick up 2 bar signal on my samsung phone. looking at getting a router but need some advice. would a B315 Huawei suffice, perhaps give a slightly stronger signal with a external antenna?

Mine also works fine there but I was told a tower is the opposite direction. The problem is, I need to get it attached onto the roof but I don't have anyone to do it. So need like someone to come and do that, thought maybe i could get Telkom to come out

i reckon the B618 would be a better choice with external attena

Random question not related to uncapped: if a Telkom sim is in a dual sim handset and the APN is set to unrestricted, will data still work when that sim roams on MTN?

Just tested my router on LTE_1800+2100 setting and hit a speed test, showed 4g+ :)

So in my quest to test Telkom Vodacom roaming I discovered an easter egg on Telkom.

Telkom has started refarming 2100MHz 3G spectrum and rolled out LTE on that band. It's only 5MHz spectrum but LTE Band 1 now live on Telkom. That gives us these options for LTE on Telkom.

LTE Band 1 (2100MHz) 5MHz spectrum
LTE Band 3 (1800MHz) 10MHz spectrum
LTE Band 40 (2300MHz) 2 x 20MHz non continuous spectrum also used for LTE-A.

It's not Vodacom roaming though. Telkom has started refarming 3G spectrum on Band 1 (2100MHz) Telkom now offers 4G+ on B40+B40 and B1+B3

This is an interesting move because now people with a Rain B618 can also get some sort of increase in speeds with B1+B3 4G+

Very interesting times indeed!
