Hi. I am using the original R599 deal that's running on a month to month basis as of May 2018.
I am thinking of upgrading the B315 to the B618. I have attached a screenshot of my speed tests. They fluctuate but not drastically. I am able to stream in 4k with no issues. Would there be a significant benefit in terms of latency and speeds with the additional capital outlay of +/- R2300 for the B618. Screenshot 2019-04-05 00.04.32.png

How on gawds green earth do you get those speeds with a B315!!!??:oops:

I've been chasing speed on my Telkom uncapped Lte for a while, been through quite a few Huawei router models. Settled on the B618-65d not too long ago. max speed I've ever seen is 40Mb/s

I seriously doubt you would get much if any improvement over those speeds you're achieving now

Very nice speeds for the B315. Interesting the tower you are on is probably not being used much at all. The B618 might push you up to ~130Mbps but it could help with the fluctuations. The B618 AND the B525 aggregates 2 blocks of 20Mhz spectrum. Currently with the B315 you are only connecting to 1 of those blocks and other users might be on the other block or on the same and once everyone starts using data at the same time is when you will see a drop in the speed.

Getting a router like the B618 or B525 that can aggregate the 2 will help give you more consistent speeds if one of the spectrum blocks get slow (if I can say it like that) then you are still connected to the other one too. Also the 4x4 mimo can help with throughput but again likely not to exceed 130Mbps. Is it worth it? I can't say it's a trial and error type thing because each tower and conditions is so unique it hard to know for sure but you will have every spec that can help to improve with the B618.

As for latency you will not see much difference unfortunately as it's the nature of LTE technology. LTE adds about 15-20ms to the connection if the cell is not congested.

Hi MEIOT

Im using the XPOL 06 Antenna. I am fortunate enough to alternate between 4 towers nearby. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones to achieve those speeds. In addition to the B315 I have a B593 which I've retired - speeds are not that great on that router.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I will consider getting either the B525 or the B618. I see the B525 has more Lan ports available and it uses the SMA - female antenna connectors as apposed to the TS-9 connectors on the B618. I might lean toward the B525 as its cheaper and I wont require the TS-9 adapters. If I do go ahead with the purchase I will post my results here. Thanks once again.

I went from B315 to B525 but totally not worth it. Speeds went from 80 down to sometimes 110 down but most download run at 20 down. if your tower is not congested don't bother.

I agree, I have B315 and average around 90 Mbps.

I tried a friends B618 and was very dissapointed as it struggled to get better than 70 Mbps.
I also use a Xpol-6-10M poynting antenna.

The 525 has these features : Firewall, CS Voice, VoIP, TR069 Remote Management, HTTP Online Upgrade, QoS, USB Share, UPnP, IPV6, DLNA, Fax, Print, VPN

The 618: DHCP Server, DNS RELAY and NAT, VoLTE, IPv4 /IPv6 dual stack

Unfortunately most are Carrier dependent and Huawei only activates what the carriers say they want. VPN, Voip and VoLTE is usually not activated but VoLTE and Voip on Telkom and Rain has been activated not sure about VPN.

My home is on the outer edge of Telkom 4G and when I went from a B315 to a B525 I noticed more stable speeds with a doubling of peak speeds (say 20-30 at night versus 10-15 previously on the B315) I also justified my purchase of the B525 because my Mi Box in the lounge is much happy on 5GHZ wifi compared to 2.4 previously.
