Hello.

I have a Huawei B525 router and I would like to know if I will be able to use the SIM-only options from Telkom with this model?

Also, which one of these two packages are better? I am currently exploring either the "20Mbps LTE Wireless Unlimited All Hours" or the "2TB LTE Wireless"

Thank you. :)

You shouldn't have a problem at all - I have two of the B525's, one of which I've been using with Afrihost / MTN LTE, and the other Axxess / Telkom capped LTE.

Here are some recent speedtests using Telkom in the B525s - 65a (to be exact) :

The reason most are after midnight is because I don't mind using up that data on capped LTE, because I'll lose it at the end of the month, but the Anytime data rolls over 'til next month.

I always prefer capped and on 2TB you should have more than enough data as whatever's not used rolls over for another month far as I know.

Note that Axxess have recently introduced the 2TB capped (at somewhat more than Telkom charge, I think) but at least you should be able to give 30 days notice to cancel if it doesn't work out (just check with them or in the website), while I think through Telkom it's minimum of 12 months ; I think the "month to month" was for a limited time.

Afrihost also to introduce the Telkom 2TB as well, soon, if not already.

Thank you very much for your detailed replies, it is very much appreciated, another thing, are these SIM-only packages month to month, meaning, I can cancel at any time? :)

Yes, they are SIM only, at least the ones on the lower-tier packages I use.

With Afrihost, if you put the cancellation through by the 15th of the month, you can cancel in that same month at the end (so a cancellation put through by the 15th will be cancelled on the 30th, 31st or 28th if a Feb.)
Don't know how they'll treat the 2TB deal when they introduce it, but as it's capped I presume in the same way.

On Axxess, if you cancel say now in June (at any time), the 1st opportunity to cancel is at the end of the next month - ie. end July, but you can elect end August instead from the drop-down they give.
So, be aware that you'll either have to put through a cancellation earlier if thinking about it (in the previous month), or be with them at least a full 30 days more than with Afrihost.

So, you can cancel anytime - best is to have a look at their T's & C's and/or phone them to confirm, to be sure especially of the 2TB deal which I know nothing about as they're new introductions.

Also @Legacy - note currently with Axxess :

Subject: Telkom LTE Usage updates
Posted: 2022-06-09 11:52:00
Message: We are currently experiencing delays with retrieving usage updates from Telkom on the Telkom LTE services. Telkom Engineers are working on updating the usages as soon as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

I sent them a ticket to resolve this yesterday, and apparently they've escalated it with Telkom.
Doesn't worry me that much because as long as the router's on with Telkom LTE SIM in it, can get usage / availability figures anytime by going to - https://onnet.telkom.co.za/ .

Afrihost don't keep Telkom usage stats in their portal so with them you'll be expected (even as the client) to go to that link to check on capped data usage.

Just some other things to be aware of ..;;;

Excuse my late reply; I would just like to say thank you for all the information you have provided, you have been very helpful in answering all my questions, I will probably go via Afrihost, they have served me well before.

Be well, bye-bye.

Only a pleasure ; glad I could be of help.

Assuming you do look out for a reply, thought I should also mention (now I checked myself) - since you've shown commitment to going with Afrihost + I currently see they're not yet showing the 2TB deal - assuming you go with the 20Mbps "uncapped" deal be aware of :
