I was adviced by a Telkom Rep to go to any Telkom shop to get the sim activated. Is this true? Can anyone who has successfully activated at the shop confirm this?
As asked above can you get this sim activated in a Telkom shop, not a Telkom Mobile shop?

I also had the outage shortly after midnight. I changed to openDNS and all was fine.

They advised me that once I receive sim not to activate it anywhere as it would cause a delay. One must await the courier to get it activated.

I dialled 10213 and gave all the info manually, this takes the process to 4-12 hours. But ensure that the courier sent the docs through to Telkom already.

Guys I just need to share my experience quickly. I wanted to follow up on the technician being sent for the antenna.
1. Logged onto chat -> person said enter number and we will call you back.
2. I said how long? They said immediately. Within 20 seconds I got a call. AMAZING!
3. Lady said please wait while I transfer you to the LTE department... i thought great here comes the wait....
4. 10 seconds later, LTE department answers. Listens to my query very friendly agent logs the call. Notifies me that I should get a call within 72 hours for the technician call out and was about to give me the ref number when it was sent via sms.

Today for the first time EVER im am beyond impressed with this service, I seriously hope this continues to be the norm.

Please provide the url for the chat service that you used? Really need to contact them and the long waits and that annoying music is killing me. I'm in the same predicament, got the equipment but have heard nothing about a technician coming over to install the Poynting.

I've been trying to get this deal unsuccessfully for 2 weeks, in perfect coverage but couldn't get anybody to call me back.

Bit the bullet and am now trying to apply in store with bid number, but so far 2 stores in Cape Town have given me the story that they don't have the deals loaded on their system and its the first time they are doing an application for this.

Has anyone successfully walked out of a telkom store in Cape Town with this deal? If so, which store and what did you have to do?

Do not wait for anyone to call you back. Dial 10213, press number two, press number three, press number 1. Tell them you want to apply. If you have a bid number tell them your bid number.

If that person isn't helpful tell them sternly you want to speak to their supervisor. They'll do a credit check, employment check right there and you'll get confirmation you successfully applied. Call from a Telkom landline or mobile because you will wait 45 minutes. Preferably Telkom Mobile so you can record the conversation on your phone. That's the easy part. Waiting for the courier is the hard pat.

Going in-store costs R100 more monthly.

See how this deal is still a challenge to beat, even after Fiber prices are 'slashed'

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/fibre/155637-cool-ideas-slashes-uncapped-ftth-prices.html

Cool Ideas FTTH on Vumatel Price Download speed Upload speed
Cool 4/1 R599 4Mbps 1Mbps
Cooler 20/2 R799 20Mbps 2Mbps
Very Cool 20/20 R899 20Mbps 20Mbps
Super Cool 50/5 R999 50Mbps 5Mbps
Ultra Cool 50/50 R1,099 50Mbps 50Mbps
Sub Zero 100/10 R1,499 100Mbps 10Mbps
Sub Zero 100/100 R1,599 100Mbps 100Mbps

That 50 down 5 up is what people are averagely getting here, some for R599, compared to R999 on fiber. We could compare the fiber 100/10 to the guys getting the best/ max speeds here as well. We got ourselves a solid here ladies & gentlemen :)

10213: It wouldn't do to spend an hour r two witgh a telephone pressed to my face at work. [Working with one hand=impractical]
108180: Couldn't help me. Said that they would transfer me to someone who could, but was bounced back to voice menu.
Telkom Chat: Also couldn't help me, but has forwarded name, ID number, contact number to sales. Told to expect a call within the next 24 hours. We shall see.

Go onto chat, ask the person to accept an immediate call back and then ask then to transfer you to the LTE department. That's what they did with me. I didn't give me details to the chat agent. I was helped immediately no waiting at all.

Still waiting for my antenna to be installed

REALLY interested to see how performance changes with the external installed! Don't forget to post them before and after speedtests gents.

The onsite techies should know how best to install by now.

I was able to tell mine exactly where the tower was and the distance from site. Not sure if they used that info or not but performance for me went from 15mbps to 80mbps, 2 bar to 5 bar. I was actually quite taken aback by how much performance improved. The first speedtest I did, post antenna, I almost jizzed... There is just something so appealing watching that needle fly past 20>30>40>50>60>70mbps.

Not sure where the closest tower is but this was the best speed we could get moving the router around with laptop connected. lol Let's hope I get a clued up techie!

Oh yes, and this was on 3 bar!
