HI - I am currently on a 10 mb premium uncapped with Axxess at R899 pm, and I am thinking of switching to Telkom Unlimited Home 20mb for R999pm. I download approx 500Gb a month.

Do you think the Telkom package is more similar to Axxess's normal home uncapped that comes in at R939 per month for 20mb, that seems to be shaped against media and downloads, or is it actually comparable to Axxess's premium uncapped?

Is anyone on the Unlimited Home package from Telkom? What has your experience been?

Thanks

I use well over 500GB per month on Telkom unlimited 20mbps and never get throttled or shaped. Do a lot of streaming and downloads. Very happy with the service.

I've been with Afrihost on their Business account, I've used other unshaped accounts from other ISPs, and the HomeUnlimited service is pretty much the same experience for me. Might be a tinge of throttling for P2P protocols, but otherwise I have no problems. I'm on a DSL line.

20Mb/s FUP only starts kicking in at 900GB

Telkom's FUP also only throttles you during peak hours. They also offer 2 priority passes a month which unshapes you for an hour if you have hit your FUP.

Hi wizard$. I was surprised to see you say Axxess 20Mbps uncapped is only R939, cheaper than Telkom’s R999. So I checked. I am yet to find an ISP that beats Telkom’s rates. Yes, the Axxess Home Uncapped shaped and throttled package is cheaper; data R364 + ADSL line R411 + landline R199 = R974 (not R939). But that’s not internet. You want unshaped and unthrottled, you want Axxess Premium or Telkom Unlimited Home.

Telkom beats Axxess Premium hands down, as I expected. Axxess is a mind-boggling 50% more expensive than Telkom. Here’s my summary …

Well, did the change - everything worked seemingly seamlessly, until last night - did the windows creators update on 3 pcs I have at home, and after the first one finished, it lost connectivity - I deleted driver, re-installed 0 had the same problem - cannot detect proxy server - this pc is not close to my main router and connects to the main router via a "repurposed" netgear router I am using as switch/wifi extender, so I initially thought there may be a problem there. Anyway, after lots of trouble shooting, I realised my tablet could also not access internet. So i went to check the main router and fibre box - no problems, all lights on, but rebooted in any case. Accessed the router - all good - connected to internet - but still proxy server problem on PC's and no internet access on tablets/Tv's, etc.

Fortunately I still had my old ISP access details, and as I did a mid month transfer, it is still valid - so I inputted those - and everything worked perfectly!! So Telkom was throttling me?????

Phoned them this morning (no dedicated no for internet problems!!!!!)waited 30 minutes, had to go through extensive verification process, only for them to tell me they cannot see what happened last night, but they will give me a "faster" connection - not sure what that means! PATHETIC! I am running away!!!!

There was a DNS issue the night before last. Changing to Google's DNS servers solved the issue (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Yeah, not sure what's up with that.
Apparently something of a general problem ?
Had issues here with DNS / Proxy as well ( on home unlimited )

Someone went to Google and ended up with a Brazilian Google page -- WUT :erm:

Don't run away
One always gets frustrated with the "front-desk"
Hang in there
Everything comes right in the end ......:) ( speaking from experience -- WIF Telkom )
