Telkom seeks private ICASA talks

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=542

However, White says Telkom would like to “approach the regulator on a friendly basis and preferably handle it as an internal matter”.

This is a joke. They have had their chance like we all did. Now that want to swing the odds by giving a one sided view to ICASA...not on!

LOL, you would think they have the brains to do it the other way around.

I don't see why this has to happen in private? Telkom have a case to answer for, and we deserve to hear what they have to say.

Already spoken to ICASA this morning - to Paris's office and sent email offering techinical expertise to them for their "meetings" with Telkom.
I have been assured they are NOT going to take anything lying down and their position as stated in the press is clear and unambiguous. They are considering how best to use our offer of technical expertise. Let me assure you that ICASA have found their teeth and it seems, their resolve.

Telkom prefers to engage the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) in private to educate it on how its ADSL service works rather than take it head on, says Steven White, Telkom's executive for product development.

I think Telkom does not want the public involved so that we cannot debunk their lies.

I think that the universal (well, except for that Knott-Craig character) support for ICASA may have a lot to do with their newly-found resolve.

So True RPM, Telkom refused to comment at the hearings right, they where caught out a few times in lies by members at the hearings.. what makes them think that they now have the right to "speak" in private.

Actually, methinx it's a good idea to let them speak in private to ICASA - this way, they would be more inclined to divulge those things that they wish to keep under wraps. The point being, that ICASA is under no obligation to keep anything 'private' that affects the regulatory environment, and that everything can later be made public. In the face of the current public scrutiny, I would imagine that Telkrap's bean-counters are extremely busy with creative accounting efforts to justify their revenue streams and pricing models as we speak - if ICASA agrees to 'private' talks, then the figures may be closer to reality...

But are they under any obligation to tell us anything? I'm no taking that chance.

A small lie, a big lie, a White lie, its all still lies. Show Telkom no mercy as we received none.

I think Telkom has pushed ICASA too far. They seem to have decided to take a very tough stance with Telkom, even more so after Telkom's harsh words in the media.

I doubt ICASA will be doing them any favours.

I think they would be very unlikely to sign a NDA -- after all, Telkom wants the private sessions, not ICASA. ICASA doesn't even have to allow them to take place, nevermind agree to signing anything...
