Id sure love to be a fly on the wall at these talks
I'd like to be a cricket on the floor... So I can see the big parcels of money Steve White slips under the tables while he pretends to know what he is talking about!

ICASA have to stick to their guns if they back down now, everyone will see them as another goverment body that does nothing other than waste our tax money! They where appointed by the goverment to make decisions like this and that is what they are doing! If telkom bully them into submission, what is the point of ICASA at all?

I bet the private caht would go like this:

Telkom: Ok ICASA, This is our COST and this is our PROFIT. As you can see, its very lucrative.. But thats not all. The reason we wanted this private chat is to show you this line right here ->> R500million. Well this line will be yours, if you sign here ->> X

ICASA: Well that sounds very generous, make it R1billion and we have a deal?

I think that, given ICASA's response to telkom's response to the report, they're very serious about this. They would lose ALL credibility if they suddenly came out of a private meeting with telkom saying "well, um, actually, telkom's right". They can't afford that.

I think, in the end, we'll see a substantial reduction in the rental, but doubt very much it will be removed completely.

Thats what I think was the plan from the very beginning!

even look at what Ngoasheng said here
It seems that Telkom has stirred the regulators wrath and all parties seem to be ready to engage in what one hopes is not a long or arduous battle. But ICASA hope to find a compromise.
“I hope some day we’ll find the middle ground,” said Ngoasheng.

Its the same with the guys who go on strike!

In all these press releases and inbetween all the mud slinging, Telkom are only disputing the rental, nothing else that I have seen.
They want a compromise, it seems clear enough.
The bottom line is we need cheaper bandwidth, higher caps, faster speeds, unshaped at that, service agreements and contention ratio's. Telkom havent whined about that part of the report.
Yes they are double charging for the line rental, lets see how they try and justify it.
I'll bet they wont be able to justify the full amount that they are charging now, or the difference for the rentals, adsl is adsl is it not.

However, White says Telkom would like to “approach the regulator on a friendly basis and preferably handle it as an internal matter”.

This is a joke. They have had their chance like we all did. Now that want to swing the odds by giving a one sided view to ICASA...not on!
Under no circumstances should Telkom be allowed to handle anything internally!
I am sorry, but I don't trust* them.

*First time I have actually stated that on this forum.
And I did so, because I know that is the truth.
Telkom tell lies.
Now I feel better.

Spoke to Suzanne Vos today, she said Telkom has basically realized that nobody bought the "We'll turn it all off!!" threat and is now backpedaling like mad, trying to get ICASA to compromise somewhere.
