So I am on mission to cancel all my contract and move to prepaid .
Cellc was easy and the cost was quite lower than expected.

So I have around 11 months left on my smartplan 100 contract.

They want to charge me R800 up front and the amount left to pay off the device.

Is this normal at telkom mobile? If yes I will just have to wait the 11 months.

Contract is only R169 a month.

Under the CPA they can charge you a "reasonable" cancellation penalty. Unfortunately it's not clear what reasonable means. Apparently Vodacom interprets it as 75% of your remaining contract fees. Personally I think it's ridiculous, and nothing more than a single month's fee is reasonable (in addition to the device costs).

See this article (doesn't say much about Telkom Mobile unfortunately): http://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellu...ng-your-cellphone-contract-will-cost-you.html

The R800 admin fee was mentioned a few times on the forum. I have been aware of it for since I took out my 10gb contract 3 years ago. Canceling a contract just barely midway through the term you will definitely be penalised even more. Either stick it out or few more months or till the contract term ends.
