Hi guys,

I've been running the telkom WCDMA service for the last year now, but have been paying ridiculously for just 2Gb per month.

Is it possible to run another ISP through the router(similar to ADSL), instead of the telkom internet?

thanks alot!

:D

As far as I know, yes it is possible to use bandwidth from another provider. Guess it depends tho on if you are locked into a contract with telkom for bandwidth as well as the actual connection.

hmmm makes sense, i dont have an actual contract with telkom, but wrt to the internet, you dont pay for the speed(line) and bandwidth separately, its one bundle ~ R300/2Gb

So then you can see it as follows:

Telkom - R300 for the service
Mweb/Afrihost/Axxess/Webafrica/Cybersmart - R... for unapped/capped service

So the R300 is like paying for the monthly land line rental and the adsl line rental. But, in case you have a problem with your new bandwidth provider/seacom is down, you have a backup of 2GB's.

Problem is, i don't have a landline :crying:

hence the reason why im using the WCDMA service..

which is why I said "like" in my post :) I meant that you could see it as if you are paying for the line and adsl rental (like people who have access to a telkom line do) and ignore the 2gb's you get and then get uncapped from someone else.

Did you ever come right with this?

I'm in a similar situation where wireless is my only option but I would like to run uncapped or at least ADSL level pricing over the Telkom FLLA/WCDMA. Is it possible to change ISPs or is Do 3G the only option?

Old thread.. Telkom are replacing my stolen copperline with WCDMA/FLLA. I currently use MWEB as my ISP - will this still be possible?

If your line is stolen, and Telkom refuses to replace the line you are actually kinda screwed.

Your only option would be wireless and your best option would be telkom mobile they have 10GB + 10Gb contracts for about R300 a month and thats about the cheapest you will be able to get away, provided you have coverage and no more possible option to have uncapped ADSL.

Welcome to my world, paying R600 a month for 40GB bandwidth vs that same amount for someone on ADSL that actually have uncapped.

If you can, steer clear of wcdma all together. Telkom won't replace cables stolen years ago. Wcdma offers you a pseudo-voip service to replace your landline. Unlike voip though, you will be charged for the calls you make. It won't simply subtract from your databundle. Im paying about R500 for this service. 10gigs day and 10 gigs night data.

The first 2 months it worked fine, the service now is barely usable.
My internet's intermittent, all hours of the day. Pings fluctuate from 200-6000 plus.
I lost about 8 gigs of night data, as unused because of the packet loss that occurs after 12.

I would like to join your world at that price...please share your package info?
