Wow. I love how Telkom make it so easy to buy a 1GB account but make it so ****ing hard to cancel it! I bought a 1GB account online with a credit card to take advantage of the free uncapped local last month (November). I asked Telkom when I should cancel the account because I didn't want it the next month (December). They said I should phone on the 30th and they would cancel account, so I wouldn't have to pay for the next month (December).

On the 30th I phone and cancel my account. Everything went all well and they said the account would be canceled immediately. No problem with me. So after 12 I try connect to the account to see if it's still active and it still works. I immediately disconnect.

I phone today (Saturday) and ask why the account is still working. They said the account is not canceled and asked who I spoke to on the phone (how the **** am I supposed to remember the operators name). They said since I used 100 odd kb on the account I must now pay for December. I told them why is it MY problem Telkom screwed up? The operator told me to wait (and so I did for about 20 minutes, I couldn't even tell if someone was still on the phone because not a sound was made) and the woman finally tells me to call back because the supervisor will be in.

To be continued..

EDIT: I phoned back and there are no supervisors. They've already left. I spoke a guy (sorry but the ****ing woman at Telkom are useless) and he said he will check if they are able to reverse the payment and they will contact me. Now just to wait and see. I doubt this guy is going to do anything anyways.

You're stuck with the account for another month looks like it regardless of what the operator may say, never give you're CC details to Telkom is the best advice I would give.

logging into the account was not clever at all it has to be said

Was that after 12pm on 2007-11-30, or after 12am on 2007-12-01? - I'm assuming the latter.

Well what happened was I was out till about 12:05AM. So I was already on for about 5 minutes. I disconnected and reconnected to double check.

We'll how the F was he suppose to know if the account was indeed disabled?? If he left it, he would have no doubt been billed anyway for the month. This is why I don't want TI as an ISP...they should pay for their mistakes...what happened to the customer always being right??

I agree, perhaps worthwhile lodging a complaint [repeatedly until squirrel gets a reply] with !CASA's CCC - there are plenty of people that discover that it's near impossible to get TelkodemonopoliesHindernet to cancel their ADSL accounts.

I'm leaving in a week for 3 weeks and won't be able to sort out this issue. Maybe I should ask them to cancel my account and then file a complaint in January to get my R70 back.

Not worth the effort! Next time you see a nice plant somewhere at a Telkom office or venue you like, "BUY' it with the money you lost and plant in your garden. Everytime you see the plant grow and increase in value you will feel he satisfaction that is was money well spend. Everytime Telkom Pi$$es you off you can pi$$ on the plant and thus as such increase its value more. I say an EYE for an EYE is in order.

AFAIK you will never get that account cancelled.

Here is my story:

When I applied for DSL in September I took DoBroadband2. Whoever handled my application put me on a 1gig account instead. After phoning TelkomInternet 10215 and complaining a 2gig account was created and according to the person I spoke to on the phone the 1gig account was cancelled.

Needless to say it is now December and Im still being charged R130 for a 1gig Isdn account? No matter how many times I call and log disputes it seems no one at the mighty billion rand company can cancell this account. Also when I ran out of gigs in the middle of October I created another 2gig account and cancelled that account on the 29th. I am still being billed for that account as well.

The saga continues. I am paying R700 a month for DoBroadband2:mad:

TELKOM "A COMPANY WHERE CONFUSION REIGNS"

Yes the bastids are nailing me for two extra accounts R130 per pop. They keep on saying they will eventually credit me as the disputes are registered with their back office ,but I know they are lying :-)

I'm going to phone every day every hour for the next week and sort this crap out.

Well I just tried logging in to the usage tracker and it no longer works. I tried the account and it no longer works too, so i'm guessing IT IS CANCELLED! :D Now if they gave me my R70 back..

Try WebAfrica! You can pay online (no call queues) and you can buy a "Pay as you Go" that does not run out at the end of the month, it carries over. click the link below.
