you can pick up a dsl modem for R300 or less these days. So incl R200 isp fees and 3gig cap I'm afraid that aint much of a special offer. Telkom: "we'll give you a free modem in exchange for your soul". Anyways it won't help me cuz my area supports dsl but the copper quality of the phonelines apparently don't. When I asked telkom when they will replace the lines with better ones the support person actually laughed at me.

Btw, you still need a normal phone line too.
Wich I think line rental is like 100 or 180? And then installation.

Anyways ;)

FYI (I was an ADSL customer - never had a problem - weep - would still be one if my exchange was enabled...

For clarification - the Telkom ADSL fee <i>includes </i>the ISP charge, yes Telkom but they're okay), the 3GB cap only applies to international traffic and only at ISP level - you can have multiple ISPs using the same ADSL line and you get a 3GB cap for each. The ADSL line also includes an analog port for tele/fax. If you have an analog line already you can conert it to ADSL (like you can for ISDN)Compare apples with apples!

Unless you're downloading DVDs the 3GB cap is okay, I run an internet cafe and while using ADSL never exceeded the cap.. in fact I used to bring my kids in with me the last two days of the month to use up the excess on mp3s etc - there is an online usage page so you can see exactly what your usage is during the month....

Okay, Telkom, email me the marketing cheque! ;-)

These "special" contract offers are part of Telkom's campaign to lock everyone into contracts before the SNO is up and running. I read in Business Day that Telkom is targeting businesses with special offers on the condition they sign 3-5 year contracts.

Bastards...

Hi Rah

Just goes to show hom much Telkom has changed ADSL. I see you WERE a customer. Obviously from when you were a customer some things have changed.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">the Telkom ADSL fee includes the ISP charge<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

It is now R680 line rental plus between R230 - R300 for an ISP.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">the 3GB cap only applies to international traffic<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

The 3GB cap now applies to any and all traffic on your line.

Telkom states the cap is per line and you have to buy an extention on your account once you have exceeded your cap.

Welcome to the real world.

Of course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time.

Well I stand corrected!

The reason I am an ex-Telkom customer is that the exchange I am connected to now is not ADSL enabled. I appreciate your comments, obviously I am not up to date... my comments relate to February this year... my apologies for anyone mislead by my comments!

No prob bud, only a pleasure to correct you. [:D] ..... Let me correct myself, it breaks my heart to have to correct you. [:(]

As for something serious, part of the complaint of MyAdsl vs Telkom at ICASA is the fact that Telkom has changed the ADSL product from its initial release parameters. You could be invaluable as an ex-customer who had a business and therefore would hopefully still have all the documentation regarding what ADSL was and compare it to what it is now.

Send RPM an email if you would be so kind.
