Telkom's lying with their speed test!

Just did a speed test on Telkom's site and it gave me this result:
Your line speed is approximately 534 Kbps or 65.4 kBytes/sec
well, I was quite surprised, since the max i've ever gotten on that test is about 56KB/s.

Then I saw this in my browser (Opera 9): http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2344/telkomspeedtestck9.jpg
notice the difference in the loading times?

I then immediately did all the other local speed tests that are listed on this site, and here's their results:

Gamco: http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/9316/4451ca7.jpg
Sentech: http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6426/sentechrn7.jpg
iBurst: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4071/iburstyf5.jpg

And I even did the telkom speed test in another browser just to be sure: http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/619/telkomfirefoxwq2.jpg

And ATM normal http downloads run at a solid 51KB/s.

So my line is definitely not performing as well as Telkom's speed test claims.

I think Telkom must have done something deliberately to make it look faster, and the fact that it's so close to 512kbps or 64KB/s every time, is just too coincidental to me.

Have you tried the ftp test instead of their http one?

Insane speed test

I dunno WTF is going on but on all the local speed tests I am getting WEIRD figures.

I did telkom's one now - A FEW TIMES, and I'm getting speeds of between 6mbps and 200mbps - SERIOUS!

The FTP test shows normal - I'm on a 4mbps line so the speeds i'm getting there are acceptable but the http tests are insane.

this is my last one - just did it now: Your line speed is approximately 7831.1 Kbps or 959.7 kBytes/sec

This is frome gameco:
Your current bandwidth reading is:

102.40 Mbps
which means you can download at 12.8 MB/sec. from our servers.

WTF?!?! I WISH!

And let me be second to say: If you read the other threads in the forum you would see that i showed that telkoms speed page is incorrectly configured thus showing around a 7kb/s increase in speeds...

That's definitely the case with PsyLenT, but in my case it's ONLY the telkom speed test that's giving incorrect results, and I am 100% sure it's not loading it from the cache, if it was it would anyways be a hell of a lot faster.

Sorry, didnt see those threads, and telkom's speed test only started giving these types of results yesterday, a week before I did the same test and it was more accurate.

I wouldn't be surprised if this 'incorrect configuration' isn't on purpose, to give results closer to the line speeds they advertise.

okay I was a little bit of a n00b :/

BUT, I realized this around 6am and started testing using ctrl+F5 and though I wasn't getting tremendous speeds I was still getting results of 7mbps.

I could still have been acting up n00bness tho so don't jump for joy

Ja, it does seem too fast,or maby its just run on the best most unshaped etc conection that Telkom have.

but I doubt it... the other night two guys on Iburst were exchanging their around 1.5mb/s Telkom speed test figures. One guy got 2mb/s once. this was late night and they have amazing Iburst connection which are almost always at 1mb, but not really 1.5 or 2.

Your line speed is approximately 317.3 Kbps or 38.9 kBytes/sec

^^^--- Odd, mine is accurate...

No.. Wait... It's higher than the gamco one.

GamCo:

Your current bandwidth reading is:
293.10kbps

which means you can download at 36.64 KB/sec. from our servers.

Eish, why the slowness ?
