Has anyone seen helkom's new (*i think) tv ad?
It aired on monday night during the 7pm news on SABC3...
Telling everyone how great adsl is and how it can be used for multimedia and online gaming...

The cheek of it.... and less than a week after they threaten to pull the plug on the whole thing.... HMMMM

all their magazine adds also state that ADSL is AWESOME for online gaming. they however neglect to tell you that its only great for gaming if you live in any other country but South Africa.

Took me 7 hours to update UO with an 8MB patch. Yes. a service that is great for gaming

i saw an ad i think it was on mnet, came on a few times while i was watchin. It like started with a man speeding through places in his 4x4 land rover or sumthing travvelling the world, almost like showing what u can do. Travel the world etc, he then is driving and suddenly starts racing his car with other cars, naturally when u see this they are promoting that with adsl you can travel the world, see everything u want to and PLAY GAMES. I dunno what telkom think, 1 second they say that playing games is ABUSING THE SERVICE, now they are promoting the thing they call abusing,,,, i dunno.. We have a retarded telecomunications company, :( they even contridict them selves so i dunno, any1 else seen this?

The can show all the ads they can want. Who's going to be able to afford adsl come november? Not me. Do they think a couple flashy ads are going to prevent the mass exodus? I'll be looking at alternatives soon.

lets hope they allow gaming now! They promote it, if not then we go higher, false advertising

Thats exactly the one i'm talking about...
I think there might be some grounds for false advertising on that one - if nothing else its way over exaggerated!!! Any thoughts from the legal fraternity???

Perhaps we can force Telkom to change it.

In all cases, when people are speeding along, either a huge brick wall appears in front of them, causing them to crash into it.

Alternatively, the cars suddenly stop and a message appears on the windscreen "Game Over, you have run out of bandwidth, please buy more before proceeding"

or show someone playing games like solitaire...

or show a bunch of old gits with long gray beards and walking sticks that try to kill each other at snails pace. thats more like telkom ADSL.

yeah, the car thing sounds about right, but they must also show a developer trying to FTP his finished project to his overseas server. ever seen a man stab himself to death with his keyboard?

Overlooking the fact that it was a Telscum advert, I have to say that creatively it was nicely done. It reminded me of the recent mnet "Magic" advert.

lol! There was a Telkom advert a few months ago telling people how they could download from movies, to songs, to games in not minutes but seconds. Guess they must be talking about 100KB sized movie clips of a second or two.

Perhaps they should have at the end of the Advert, the person pulling a Cap out of a pocket, and as it is put on the head, you see the big number 3 written on it... Fade to black with evil laughter
