http://www.supersport.com/tennis/ar...ne=Serena penalty hands Clijsters final berth

With the Belgian on the brink of victory, second seed Williams was called for a foot-fault on a second serve to go match point down. An angry Williams argued with the lineswoman who reported her for verbal abuse.

Having already received a warning earlier in the match for smashing a racket, Williams was handed an automatic point penalty for a second violation which gave Clijsters the match.

Can't really say that Serena has my sympathy. She's arrogant and I'm glad Kim Clijsters won.

Check out this clip. It clearly shows her swearing at the line judge a couple of times.

http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/match_reports/2009-09-13/200909131252819557531.html

If you hit "pause/play" at 59sec to 61sec, you can clearly see that her foot only hits the court when the ball is already over the net. (at 61sec)

Not that it excuses her behaviour, but the linespeople should not be able to affect the outcome of games with bad calls like this. Isn't it a paid job...well they should do it correctly then or be accountable for errors.

cheers

Mate, if you check real close you will see her foot twist when the ball was thrown up. It is that turning action of her foot that caused her to touch the line and lead the line judge to call a foot-fault.

Here's a clip that shows that foot twisting.

How embarrassing for the yanks... must have been emotionally charged to say the least. Sport sucks when it's that serious.

I was reading a BBC article today where the line judge said she was threatened with violence.. I think the word stupid Serena used was "kill".

She has disgraced herself and the sport.

I agree. I saw that part of the match. I couldn't see how that was a foot-fault. Her demeanor was disgusting and I'm glad she lost. However, I have to say, the umpires and linesmen were atrocious for the entire tournament so far, especially in last night's match which was Federer vs. Djokovic.

I don't think it was... besides, it's words - I think most intelligent people can see that. Not sticking up for her btw, just think we are all too touchy these days wrt words. Of course, there's the setting an example to the kids thing, but if not for the media hype, no'one would have noticed - it was too soft for anyone to actually hear on live TV.
"I swear to God I'm... going to take this ball and shove it down your... throat, you hear that? I swear to God. You better be glad... glad that I'm not, I swear," Williams told the line-judge in her expletive-laden rant.

Go serena i reckon.

I think emotions are something we will never understand and sometimes they come out in bad ways. I think she could easily shove a tennis ball down someone's throat with just her pinky :D.

""If I could, I would take this ... ball and shove it down your ... throat," Williams said, according to a tennis official who watched a replay Saturday night.

The official also said Williams used the word "kill." The official declined to be identified because the tape was still being reviewed.

Then its strange how many intelligent people get upset with Malema in the CA section....

Malema is a politician and people take what he says seriously - what he says affects our standard of living in this country - it's not the same IMO.

I guess what I'm saying is that her fine and what not is appropriate, but I doubt if official's life or well being was in danger...
She should be made to apologise publically too though, or face an indefinite ban until she does. They need to take it seriously.
