Terminal Server Issue

Good day to all...

i have been having some major issues trying to get my terminal server upa and and running for the past few days and i don't seem to be getting any where..

our server ran out of licenses so i tried to find out how to make them expire which i managed to do.. i also followed the step of removing the mslicensing from the registry . i then rebooted the server about 2 or 3 times to make sure that it's all done...
i then went and look at the licenses and they were gone.i did make a back up of that registry file just to add.. is there any way possible that i can "reload" those licenses .
i mean they can't just go missing like that...

thank you

When a user logs onto a terminal server the client is issued with a temporary TS license token that is set to expire after 90 days. When the user connects again, the TS server tries to update the temp token with a valid token; if there are no licenses available, then the machine will continue to use the temp license. Valid tokens are set to expire after between 52 and 89 days. So if you had reached your license limit, and rebuilt a client machine, then the new machine would have a temp license for 90 days, and the old license would automatically expire (on the server), in between 52-89 days, thus ensuring that the new machine can connect. Prior to this licenses had to be expired manually which was a huge headache.

So it sounds to me that you removed the licenses from the server, and not from the client which was what you should have done (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing on the client, to make it request another temp token). You need to reload the TSCAL from documentation that you have from MS.

BTW it sounds like your email, TS and even your own PC are screwed - you having a rough week? :D

thank you very much for your reply..
i had a rough idea about the time out task to do on the server. but i think that i done the removing first on the server..

so that's where i made the error i removed the MSlicensing from the server.. damn.. i will have to find the paperwork to get all the licenses then..

the other reason why i removed it from the server was most of our users are working off thin clients... they don't have a "proper" profile on their machine..

yeah rough week is not the word man.. damn..
