The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (Natjoints) cautioned South Africans against circulating false information about terror attacks.

This was in response to the security alert issued by the US Embassy earlier this week. On Friday, Natjoints, which includes the State Security Agency (SSA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS), said it met regularly to assess citizen safety.

"The security of citizens remains the top priority, and law enforcement agencies have measures to deal with threats to national security," said spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Netshiunda. Natjoints said law enforcement had already introduced heightened safety measures as part of its Safer Festive Season campaign.

"All hands are on deck, and all law enforcement agencies have joined forces to ensure that South Africans and those who live in this country are and feel safe," said Netshiunda. On Wednesday, the US Embassy issued a warning regarding possible terror attacks targeting large gatherings at an unspecified location in Sandton.

Although it said it did not have more information on the matter, it urged people to avoid mass gatherings. Several events will take place in Sandton this weekend, including the LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade, which will continue, despite the threats. Netshiunda said Natjoints would ensure the safety of attendees at hundreds of major events across the country.

In all honesty, I would rather heed America's warnings and share it than trusting the SAPS or SA Government. These fools could not even predict or prevent last years riots. Hell, they could not even have seen or stopped state capture. They did not even know about this threat this weekend had it not been for the Americans warning their own people.

If there are no attack this weekend, we all can thank the Americans for their intel and preventing it.

Now it can be said that the threat is downplayed to the point that it is said that there is no direct terror threat.

He added:

This calls for heightened police visibility, roadblocks, and search-and-seizure operations. Spectators, fans and patrons might expect delays in accessing the venues and other strategic points. We urge the public to exercise patience and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Deputy State Security Minister Zizi Kodwa said his department was dissatisfied with the US Embassy because it had failed to communicate with the government and share evidence which supported the safety alert it issued.

He said: "These things do create a lot of anxiety and panic... like this has done. I must say categorically that, from the SSA point of view, there is no direct terror threat to South Africa. We must make sure that we are vigilant because we are vulnerable. I make this point, so that we don't lower our guard."

Basically, they are dismissing the US's warning to their own citizens.

So national security remains a top priority, yet you have no more information on the matter, so the events will continue as normal despite the threats, of which you have no more information about.

This is some weapons grade logic right there. Maybe just stay at home and go mow your law or something.

This is very true.

Often you have many foreign intelligence agencies from various countries operating under cover in SA, or any other country for that matter. These people have their own intelligence sources and they do not always share the same sources as local authorities. When information is received by these operators, they are often unconfirmed and difficult to provide evidence. It require a lot of investigation, monitoring, intercepting communications and much more.

It becomes more difficult to do this if intel is received late and these methods can't be executed. In cases like this you need to rely on the potential accuracy of the source it comes from. If the source is believed to be accurate, and there are circumstantial evidence supporting the intel, you have to act immediately, like the US did in issuing warnings.

Simply saying there are no evidence and there are therefore no threats are just plain ignorant and evident of the stupidity and inability of these people to rule, which makes it pretty much clear why South Africa is currently in the position it is finding itself in.

If this was my country, I would first start off by getting information from the US as to who they tried to report this to and then fire everyone in all those positions and departments. Then thank them for the information and get the relevant agencies on it.

Accurate summary. All I will add is the distrust between the various departments locally, sometimes with good cause. A perfect storm waiting to happen and has happened.

imho, iraq 2.0 was part of the new world order plan, same like 9/11 and the patriot act. They knew there was nothing and made it up, just so they can get the oil. These 2 events created "terrorism", the new "evil" in the world that the public needs to be afraid of and sacrifice their liberty for "safety".

Then we have a convenient organisation called the EU that can create laws for all member countries eroding your liberties, letting in savages no questions asked.

It's all part of the plan. Create chaos, so citizen gets scared and turns to "government" for "safety".

The world is controlled by a handful of people. I don't believe these people are American, but they are in America if that makes sense?

Just to play devils advocate, everybody hates America because they are bullies, but just imagine what kind of world we would be living in if America didn't win wwII. imho, we would be speaking German and would have had wwiii already. What I'm trying to say is that America is a stabilising force in terms of world politics even though they are dumb as **** and arrogant as ****, it's still better than the alternative.

Imagine where Ukraine would be now if not for America for example? I'll tell you, they would be gone and Russia would be taking out Poland and Finland, for what reason? No reason, it's what they do.

I know CT harbour is pretty small and limited. Do they have the space for this size ship?

If so, is it within egg throwing distance from the nearest bar?

The Merikans read Oom George's report on Jeni's fart detector and issued a terror warning. It's a well known fact that gay's love Volvo's.

Americans: "there's a credible threat but no more information is available. "

British embassy: "yes, there is a credible threat to Sandton. We are currently in s@$t as a government, might as well join the chorus. "

Canadian embassy: "let us be neighbourly and join in. Yes, South Africa, we have information of a credible threat to your country."

Australian embassy: "f$&k, let us destabilize the Springboks and scare them about the terrorists."

South Africa: "screw you all, there is no threat, we are not going to stop supporting Putin and the megayacht in Cape Town stays."

Pride March carries on with no issues.

Conspiracy theory much? The WMD disinformation was planted by Russia, just like the AIDS made in a US military lab at Fort Detrick disinformation.

You omit to mention; - Because of heightened security and the warnings from the security agencies.

It's never what is said but what is omitted.
Chill my good friend. I am just taking a dump on everyone including South Africa.

The winners here are the Pride march organizers and the attendees for good and proper marketing and advertisement
