Tesla Powerwall in SA - prices and official launch window

From my experience, I believe such pricing when I see the invoice.

It looks like an encouraging start though.

I guess Tesla needs to keep stock and tread water until the next load sheddings

Total cost for a solar installation would be panels, inverter, powerwall. Is that correct?

As far as I'm aware, its a container full of Powerwall's privately imported by Rubicon SA.
Tesla SA doesn't have much to do with it.

Only issue I have is integrating something like this into an average off-grid setup, as its aimed squarely at grid tied inverters.
For those who can use it though, its a great price/solution.

7KWh = ~145ah @ 48v

Unless I'm missing something this really isn't a great deal.

I'm one of the few who have actually installed a grid tied solution. 12kwh of AGM batteries + Imeon 3.6 inverter. The entire installation cost me 56k. 3kw of panels will be another 35k installed - so call it a round 100k for batteries, grid tie inverter and 3kw of solar panels

$3600 x R15 = R54k just for 7kwh of batteries? Im guessing this is ex vat, ex import duties, ex ZAR fluctuations

Do your batteries look like this and have the smart features? Otherwise it is not remotely the same thing.

The design alone makes it worth it, and when you add on the smart features, it is a bargain

What are the features ? I haven't actually heard what these are.

"Tesla announced that work on the Gigafactory was ahead of schedule "

What wizardry is this they speak of?

It is connected to the internet (Like the Tesla Model S is). Which allows :

Storing electricity during low tariff periods and discharging during high tariff periods.
Ability to create smart micro-grids.
And like the Model S, frequent software updates over the internet

Don't forget to include lifespan and DOD in your maths. The Powerwall is a lithium ion battery.

LOLWAT?

Yeah, to download more "features".

Just admit it, you're a poser and want to show your easily impressed friends (don't show the electrical engineers, they'll laugh in your face) how much money you've got to burn.

Hey, it's OK, it's your money to burn, but don't try justify this crap as a "superior" product. It's inferior to lead acid in every metric, except one very rare use case, which only applies to solar installations, sometimes. (Oh, it's also superior in pose value, but only when showing it to fellow idiots.)

Wow, you're an angry person.

Does design make you angry? Did it do something to you in your childhood?

Many buy an expensive car solely based on features like the dual din audio setup and seat material i.e looks! Wifi is a car seller;)

Don't forget that these have such feeble power output that you'll need at least two.

Hey, you spend your money on fancy covers and I'll spend mine on more power.
