Tesla Powerwall prices come down in South Africa

South Africans looking for a reliable load-shedding solution will be pleased to know that the price of a Tesla Powerwall setup has decreased substantially since last year.

Powerwall is a home battery system that stores excess energy for use when you need it, provides backup power to your home during grid outages, and keeps your appliances running in your home at night for solar power setups.

Tesla Powerwall 2 : 13.5 kWh (100% DoD) @ R148k = R10962 / kWh
Pylontech US3000b: 3.5 kWh (100% DoD) @ R18490 = R5283 / kWh

Yeah ... makes perfect sense.

The Pylontech is not 100% DoD - The b variant is 80% DoD - So 2.8 Kwh usable. Powerwall is also an inverter.

Looks to me like no one is interested contrary to the high demand claims.

It's still overpriced for what it offers despite the signicant drop in price.
Just checked, 4 x Pylontech 3.5kWh R20,000 each = R80,000
This should match the 13.5kWh usable capacity of the Powerwall 2.
There's some kind of inverter in the Powerwall 2 / Supporting hardware - not sure what the value is.

USD price of Powerwall 2 went up, ZAR price went down:
In October 2020, Tesla increased the price of the Powerwall from $6,500 to $7,000.
Now (Jan 2021), Tesla is again increasing the price of the Powerwall by $500.
The automaker updated its online configurator, and now the price of the home battery pack is $7,500

It does not. The Pylontech is 80% DoD - newer ones are a bit more I think - but not 100%. So, at 80% DoD - you have 11.2 kWh usable. Will need 5 Pylontechs to match. So 100k.

Inverters + supporting hardware - another 25k or so.

OK, so very similar price once factor in the DoD and inverter and gateways and brackets and cables etc.

The Powerwall doesn't really support solar so it's not a straight up comparison. Powerwall is expensive for what it can't do.
