Tesla rival BYD launches Atto 3 SUV in South Africa — starting from R768,000

Something else.

It appears that single motor EV's function better when rear wheel drive.

Most of the other EV manufacturers are implementing their newer single motor cars as rear wheel drive.

For example, the 2024 Volvo EV's are rear wheel drive.

Tesla has always been rear wheel drive. AFAIK.

That said, it is great that BYD has entered the market in SA.

The taxes on these vehicles just need to be reduced.

BYD EV = Haval/Cherry ICE

Waiting for a German, Korean or Japanaese version, sub R500k, then I will bite

Bit pricey but that’s mostly tax. Range is great though. I’d appreciate a 11kW or 22kW AC charger but I guess you can’t find 3-phase power everywhere

It is assembled in china, india and vietnam from components made all over the world.
This guy knows how to dance to the tune

Neither here nor there on China, I just don't presume to know that a car is of poor quality based purely on the fact that it comes from China. People assumed similar things about Japan as Toyota and Honda started becoming global powerhouses. BYD makes electronics and components used by numerous companies — including Tesla. Some people might not like it, but the Chinese brands are coming in fast and strong.

I think quality control is the key element imposed by non-Chinese firms using Chinese factories..
A good point, but this car scored 5-star safety ratings in the Euro NCAP and ANCAP, so at least on that front it performs. Carwow does mention some issues with wind noise and driving quality, though.
