Tesla wants to use Powerwalls as small power plants

Tesla Inc. is hoping to turn some Texas homes into “virtual power plants” after tests showed its home batteries can be quickly tapped to reduce stress on the state grid.

Tesla is making the push after trying a project that pooled together 64 northern Texas homes outfitted with rooftop solar and Powerwall batteries.

Do you know that they actually use NMC in that installation, because LFP is cheaper and makes more sense in this use-case. (Tesla uses LFP in the standard range model 3.) Also, that fire was caused by a coolant leak; IIRC it happened within the first week of operation - so probably an installation error.

I stay in a boomed, fenced off security village and was thinking could we not start our own backup system to get away from Eskom like we shared the cost of fencing off our area to get away from crime?

The options are certainly becoming feasible and looking more attractive financially the more Eskom screws up and make us pay for their mistakes..
