Wonder if anyone got an answer for me...I am using a Marconi Modem/Router Pots ( 1 Lan connection )...My router is also set up to a Hub...My question now is, after i have installed a Firewall, and "protect-enabled" port 110 ( mail port )...When i do a "test" on my machine via https://grc.com , it says that my port 110 is STILL open...I have tried with numourous firewalls, but get the same result...I also tried blocking port 23 ( Telnet ), but with no success.....Any ideas what i might be doing wrong??...tia

i think the scan is being performed on your router not your pc. the ports must be open on the router. maybe for remote access to the router or email sending or something.

The text explanation advises that the utility is probably returing results from your ISP, which I believe to be the case (110 is for pop3 - if you have no mail or other software that uses this port, as in my case, the result is obviously misplaced). If you've password-protected telnet services (port 23) on your router, or disabled it entirely, then you also have no reason to worry...

mmmm...funny thing though, i think i agree with Splint3r.....it could be that they are testing the router and not my machine...thx fellas :-)

grx.com will test the machine it can reach. If your router is set up for NAT, which is very likely, the router is the machine it will test. Your router will have the "internet" IP address which can be reached from other systems on the internet like grc.com.
