Whether it's investing or trading, you shouldn't be guessing... they're just over different terms. (IIRC you need to hold on to a stock for 5 years to avoid capital gains taxes)

Unrelated: Capitec is hurting me :(

Need to hold for three years to avoid getting taxed at your marginal tax rate. After three years CGT would apply.
Although you could always argue your case if you sell within 3 years and your reason for buying in the first place was for capital gain.

I've actually wondered. How easy would it be to try get to the bottom of the pile..? The traders sometimes try pick a loser so they can short it, and they often get it wrong...

Now I'm up again :) From R467k to R515k since this morning.

I bought a diversified portfolio of penny shares, so huge gains and losses.

I know, but personality also plays a role. My first purchase was based on guessing and trying to mix probables with one high risk. That's why I have Telkom in there - hoping that some miracle will turn the company around before the end of the year. My following purchase was based on a bit of research - I looked for common demonitors between the top ranked players. Still not proper research, but I trust them more than me.

With trading the game will feel much more involved for me, and with multiple chances to make loss/gain, I will feel more confident on basing my purchases on the companies themselves rather than on the other players.

I have a suggestion for the site: Instead of having to search for yourself in all the leaderboards, how about just having your own profile highlited? Different colour, bold, anything.

I used to just scroll to the bottom to find my self. Lately I scroll to the middle of the list. ;):p

Was last from the Mybb group this morning. Now up to first place. R100k swing. 5th overall with R548k

Edit: Up to R648k while I posted.... 2nd overall...

It would be great if we were allowed to trade. Good time to sell and buy another stock.

I took the R500k and split it, R100k each to the 5 cheapest shares. Go big or go home :)

what's the bet you won't in real life be able to buy or sell R100k of most of those shares when you wanted to?

lol

and when the market moves down, you're gonna swing wildly the other way too :)

Yep, I've been at the very bottom and at the very top in the space of a few hours today. It wont last but it was worth it.

Doesn't seem to work if you have hidden holdings?

It does, but you must be bookmarking the URL. Try clicking on the tab, then you can bookmark the new URL. It's got to do with cookies not being shared across domains.
