Now I'm up again
I bought a diversified portfolio of penny shares, so huge gains and losses.
He'll drop back quickly. I would like to know what he bought - might make for an interesting trading simulation on the Fin24 trading sim.
You'll find out from next month when profiles open up (with a delay option). Just for the newbs, trading penny shares in the real world is practically impossible as they hardly ever trade...
I'm one of those newbs. So if I understand correctly: they don't get traded often, so your offer to sell lies dornmant - nobody wants to buy them from you. What then pushed the price so high that SaiyanZ made such a large profit?
BTW - on the trading sim my main aim is currently to recover my losses. My trading account became an investment account....
You're right, you can offer any price you like for a share, but if nobody buys you just sit with them. There's a good writeup of the whole issue here: http://www.shareforum.co.za/the-investor-challenge/investor-challenge/
The last time one of these shares jumped up, someone bought a less than R100 worth of shares that usually trade at 1c each, for 2c each. This bumped up the price to 2c, so all the other holders doubled their money, but if they try and sell at 2c nobody will buy, so they only made money on paper. Why on earth someone would buy R100 worth of shares and spend more than that on fees baffles me. My best guess is to win some sort of challenge in a game or look good in one of the trading simulators. Stay faaaar away from penny shares in real life, you will get burnt most times!
That makes sense, thanks. The fact that you can always sell on the trading sims makes trading seems much easier than it probably is. In RL you always sit with the risk that nobody wants to buy at the price you want to sell at.
