Be warned all that there is a serious gap between investing monopoly money and investing cold hard cash.

e.g. If you want to "win" a competition like this, you find the share with the highest volatility possible and invest everything. If it soars you're at the top of the leaderboard. If it tanks you go back to browsing facebook. Meaning you have essentially no risk - a far cry from investing your actual savings in a risky high volatility asset.

I also see that everyone has thrown caution to the wind and outlaid all of their capital from the get-go. Cash in hand might be a blessing...

It would be great if they had an IP lockout so that you cannot 'respawn' like Call of Duty.

That's not the point of the exercise, although I wouldn't mind a re-weighting option so that it's more reflective of real portfolio management. There are quite a few dummy account options around as it is.

The only issue is that it will be a little too true to life, in that you invest and forget about it. Most amateurs will check every hour or so at first, then every day, then every second day, until they eventually lose interest as there is no possible manipulation of the portfolio in any sense.

I'd say allow some re-weightings and add another asset class, preferably a derivative, and preferably index futures.

^^totally not biased - that was just a random suggestion^^

:D

Is this a trick where the OP takes all of our investment 'advise' and then starts investing with real money :)

Nice idea though. Just signed up

Nah dude...leverage & derivatives won't work with monopoly money...people will just go all in & hope it works. No risk exposure.

Shorting on the other hand should totally be fair game.

Care to elaborate? Unless the market takes a nose-dive, surely you'll always come out +- average with a cash component? i.e. Someone will have made a 100% commitment to something that soared....putting you in 2nd place.

Even if he is, it's doing an awesome job of getting people interested and possibly eager to play the real markets.

Patrick, would it be possible to add a group function to users. That way MyBB users could have their own leader board / clan.

Ok I've just implemented this. Now all someone needs to do is click on groups and create a MyBB group.

Haha, I don't even know how you did that. Just try add it again, it should rename.

Can you enable more than one group per user? I had setup a new group for another forum and it replaced the MyBB one.
