Foschini Group buys 307 Tesla Powerwalls to fight load-shedding

Retail group TFG — which owns Foschini, Jet, @home, and a range of other well-known stores — has bought 307 Tesla Powerwalls to support its operations during load-shedding.

The company ordered the first batch of 227 Powerwalls in late July 2022. These will be used at 130 of its most profitable outlets.

"Users can charge the unit with electricity from the grid or solar panels."

Didn't someone mention before that it's not possible to use solar panels with the Powerwalls that are sold in South Africa?

*edit*

Maybe I dreamt it.

It depends which model they were talking about at the time, some of the earlier models were very scammy.

No, there were comments about the price not including the solar panels.

There was something very wrong about the earlier models, what they offered and the price didn't make any sense, I also recall that they needed a lot of other stuff to work as a total package, stuff that was not included. They were not exactly what they seemed to be, sure there are still articles about them, Solitude is on to something.

I am sure the models are now better offering after people caught on to the scam.

You can, you just need to have another inverter to charge from solar since the PW charger works on AC.
Powerwall is an inverter and battery only - no MPPT AFAIK.

no the very early ones, something about Powerwall 1 and Powerwall plus or something, I can recall the xact detail but some models either did not include a battery, inverter or mppt, will see if i can find the articles.

Here's a typical powerwall setup - note separate inverter for solar:

What is labelled the Powerwall in the pic is the battery with integrated inverter circuit.

The Powerwall Plus includes the solar inverter (MPPT and Inverter):

Powerwall+ Specs and fail to mention MPPT specs, because it's probably a trade secret and need a tesla approved technician to install it lol.

What specs are you looking for?
  • 7.6kW Solar Inverter with 4 MPPTs = Max solar capacity 12.9kW
To add, you get a DC powerwall and an AC powerwall as per the FAQ: https://zerohomebills.com/wp-content/uploads/Powerwall-2_FAQ.pdf

Nothing scammy, you just have to understand the tech which no doubt their installers would.

Very fancy, does it make foschini shoppers feel good and want to spend more

I'm sure if you buy 307 of them the price is more realistic.
