So out of 200+ international players, being on a short list of 5 for the player of the year award, isn't prestigious? WOW!! Just... WOW!!! That there hasn't been a SA player since considered good enough to make the short list should have been your clue... but apparently not...Sure Malcolm will make it this year though and maybe even Aphiwe too.

In all honesty, if we were told that we would beat the ABs in Wellington and lose in the dying seconds at Loftus we would have laughed and joked about it.
Everyone would have taken those results.
I still go back to my previous comment. Imagine we went for a dropkick just before halftime where we could not get through for 2mins while camping on the ABs 22m-line.......Smarter play was needed as was the case with ABs in Wellington.

As I saw it he knocked it straight down and kicked it before it touched ground - but camera angles can be deceiving.

Doesnt matter, its all about the trophies. The same applies to the Proteas. We tend to balls things up in games you should win, which ultimately costs us the title

Game style changed over the years. At one stage in rugby all we did was play a kicking game, so we needed more kickers and accurate ones for that matter.
You cannot compare Willie to Percy based on points scored. Percy was our kicker so obviously he will have more points.
Dude Willie is one of the best fullbacks in world rugby, on a good day that is.

The title was never on the line yesterday though. AB had already secured the championship. Besides the Boks have 2 RWC titles and a couple of tri-nation titles under their belts. Proteas have diddly squat!
The main takeaway is that we've been highly competitive in the last 3 outings against the AB's. Winning 1 and being a mere penalty away from winning 3/3. Considering we lost 57-0 this time last year, the turnaround in fortunes can't be ignored. Credit where credit is due.

If it's the same one I'm thinking of he was actually lucky not to get yellow for that. Deliberate knock down while the ABs had a 2-0 overlap.

Come on dude? If I had told you at the beginning of the year that we would win one and lose the 2nd in the last minute of the game, you would have told me to layoff the crack.

I feel we should have won that game and lost the one in NZ. I was so confident of a NZ points comeback I took an inplay bet when they were 2 tries down. Paid bombs but we should've showed more mental discipline after conceding the try that took them within striking range. I don't blame the team totally, its much improved and bodes well for the future. Also NZ are showing kinks in their Armour.

I have been observing this thread, and I am in the same opinion that we over-utililsed our subs in the final 10m. Yes, we may have been exhausted and so was the opposition. There was from my viewpoint a clear shift of focus and pressure after the final substitution 'spree'.
Nonetheless, this game proved that we are still #1 contenders, irrespective of transformation.
For the build-up of the RWC 2019, depth building will be crucial for our way forward, and it is achievable from our developments in the Northern and Southern front.
My only dislike is the recruitment of Sevens players which is as 15-man rugby a specialisation game.
Rassie will be digging deeper into 'continuity'. That is part of being Director of Rugby.
In summary, we are improving. That is a positive.
