Arguably isn't a match winner when it really counts, I think this is true for the vast majority of our best players.

I had a question pop in my mind during the last over of the Pakistan innings :

How different would a team consisting of our greatest 11 ODI players be from our greatest ever World Cup 11?

Cricket is a team sport.. you need about 2-3 good performances to do well. Exception being a bowling all rounder.

De kock starting hitting but failed in the process.. just seemed like he decide it was time to hit and then kept doing the same thing. So it’s like he fell into a newb hitting adrenaline instead of watching the bigger match situation which is now worse as a result. (You see this with developers too haha)

So on your question.. it depends.. SA teams major downfall has always been the same. We play players irrespective of their performance where Aus players are cycled in and out

That advert where the laaities tell the Proteas that they're coming for them, bu they'll be gentle, is sort of insensitive given the current state of the Proteas.

Lol I recently saw one with Steyn doing a Protea Fire promo (also Standard Bank). Looked really dumb given the current state

What a ****ing frustrating player. Whole ****ing top order has just gotten out at the worst time.

So much balls invested in that innings. Just starting to accelerate. ****ing hell. Out.
Similar rate to Pakistan openers...

Agreed. They play irrespective of form. From readmission even. It’s our way. Then we surprised when they don’t produce.

You make a valid point, but do we really have the number and calibre of players to cycle in and out? Our entire state of cricket is just sh*t and way underdeveloped

It’s not even about that. He did the hard work. Dug him out of the hole strike rate wise. Good blows just before that only to chuck his wicket away.

Pakistan openers blazed at the beginning then got bogged down. He has to play the match situation better surely.

There goes our next captain apparently. They will probably play him till he has a good innings and declare ‘we told you so’. Heaven help us.

He being played out of position to accommodate Amla in the squad. If he's not batting in the top 3 then there's no point playing him. That said Markram should really perform better than this.

Going forward for the rest of the tournament Markram should open with De Kock, the payoff for him getting on form will benefit the team in the long term but if fails to get a 50+ average in the last games he should dropped from the ODI squad entirely going forward.

But if the team needs you at three don’t you bring your best to that position? He has failed. Why haven’t they swopped the two? We don’t try anything. Give him a go at opening. Can’t be any worse.

We are so resistant to change what’s not working it’s scary.

LOL! Why do you guys still care about Proteas? They don't give schit about winning cricket matches for you guys. Probably due to not getting paid enough in comparison to players of other cricketing nations. Who knows? Just sit back and enjoy the shitshow.:p:p:p

Worst is they select the same test players in the one day squad. It's two different games. One where run rate doesn't matter, pitches are prepared different, fielding positions are different and you play with a different ball. So tell me why do you select the same team?

Side note: Perhaps the scoreboards should show 10ov segments to drive home the point that this game is one of multiple segments.. seems players these days miss this fact

The junior players won't increase the rate as they know they can't qualify for the semi final and there will be an inquisition after the world cup. They are just playing for averages so they don't get the blame when stats are compared.
