Amla 24 - Terrible average for top order
QDK 39.6 - slightly below average for top order
Faf 38.2 - slightly below average for top order
Markram 21.2 - terrible for top order for top order below average for mid order
RvdD 54 - really good average for middle order
Miller 34 - the definition of average for the middle order.

Markram's average isn't even mid order. Its acceptable for a part-timer batting between 7 - 9. Probably even too low for a #7 in a decent batting lineup.

Once you love cricket
You can never stay away from it. :)

This is true. I can never not love cricket. Even my wife knows that she only wins on NRR :p

And despite the Proteas performances leaving me numb, we did have some really entertaining matches from IND VS AFG and NZ VS WI.

Sadly though... I'm still just numb from yesterday.

Dont really want to hear the word cricket! I was actually even looking forward to my mid year performance review meeting this morning.

That's saying a lot

Let'e enjoy each game as it is. If your favorite team wins, it's a Bonus.

Problem isn't averages but run rate. Why has there been a massive decline in runrate between games before and during the world cup for the South African team?

In a tournament that has largely proceeded according to form, rankings and expectations, South Africa are the one team who have significantly diverged from predictions.

They have bowled adequately, but not in the manner of a team that, coming into the tournament, possessed two of the top five in the ODI rankings (Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir).

As a team, they have batted with the fluency of a rhinoceros trying to play a Beethoven piano sonata during a rough ocean crossing on a slightly leaky 17th-century warship.

Their batsmen collectively have the third lowest strike-rate (81 per 100 balls), ahead only of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. No team has scored a lower percentage of its runs off the bat in boundaries (42%).

What an analogy.

Lowest boundary percentage says it all. We're lucky Afghanistan is in the tournament, otherwise we risked being stone last.

That's assuming Afghanistan don't manage to pull off a couple of wins.

Also Sri Lanka wouldn't want to be the only test playing nation to lose to us, so it's safe to assume that our wins are done for this tournament...
