He started using it in the IPL if I'm not mistaken...
So, why do no other umpires need one? Do batsmen target this particular guy for some reason?
If the batsman hits the ball, it bounces off the plastic thingy and then is caught is he out ?
just like if the ball hits spider cam
Agree. But probably never written into the lawsGood question. I'm guessing not as he's not part of the game. It will probably be declared a dead ball, just like if the ball hits spider cam
Will be a WC record...338/6 Hopefully the Windies send in their 1st team and we see a proper run chase. Could be a fantastic afternoon's viewing.

An ECB spokesman told AFP that if the ball deflected off the shield and was then caught by a fielder, the batsman would be given out. By contrast, the Laws of Cricket make it clear that if a ball hits the helmet of a fielder before being held, the batsmanis not out and dead ball is called.

If a fielder doesn't catch the ball, does it then count as a boundry,1or 2 runs maybe? . You can't punish one side and reward the other (basically for obstruction)....https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06...ns-new-shield-to-protect-against-ball/7543348
